They will, its called load shedding.
That's the idea.. please loadshed me whenever your unbridled incompetence dictates, just for gods sake stop whining about how I am somehow responsible for your problem.

They will, its called load shedding.
I've managed to bring my household electricity down to R300 a month with two adults and a toddler, how much more do they want me to bring it down?
Like I said before, they should rather switch off the supply to the neighbouring countries that are pulling us down with them.

Why should we pay the price because they are too incompetent and corrupt to keep their own supply going?
They will probably be happy if you stop using electricity altogether and still pay R300. Actually probably R600 now because the ANC is broke
I would not say that Botswana is incompetent and corrupt. Not by a LONG shot.
It most definitely is not, Botswana is a fantastic place.
Our useless government could learn a lot from them.
*The power failure affects much of the country
* BPC does not know when power will be restored
* Morupule and South African transmission have been lost
According to Botswana Power Corporation the power cut was occasioned by the main transmission line that was lost in Matimba in South Africa to Phokoje in Botswana. This is the transmission which is used to import power from South Africa.
The situation was further compounded by the power failure at the Morupule Power Station.
"The loss of the Matimba/Phokoje Transmission Line is due to a fault on this line and patrols by BPC and Eskom are currently in progress to locate the fault", a statement from BPC publicity chief Tlhomamiso Selato reads.
Contingency measures have been put in place to restore supply to some parts of the country through other inter-connectors from Spitzkop in South Africa and Bulawayo, Zimbabwe albeit with limited capacity.
The Emergency Power facility has also been put in service to alleviate the power shortage. The maximum load which can be supported by the above-mentioned measures is approximately 300MW (60% of peak load).
"BPC and Eskom staff are working round the clock to restore the Matimba/Phokoje interconnector in the shortest possible time. Stakeholders will be given regular updates on the situation.
The corporation sincerely regrets any inconvenience that may be caused by this interruption and assures our customers of our commitment to serve at all times", ends the statement.
FYI, from the latest bulletin:
Thursday's available capacity was at 31293MW and the forecast usage was at 30952MW. Planned maintenance was at about 3500MW and unplanned maintenance at 8750MW.
From that, we were sitting at just over 1% available power yesterday.
What year do the contracts with other countries end?
We can't switch them off. We have contracts in place that were signed years ago, and to turn them off would have massive political implications.
Once again, Botswana's peak load is 1.4% of eskom's capacity. Switching them off doesn't gain us much, and hurts us a lot more reputationally.
