I have a GPS and a dash cam connected to a 12v multi plug that goes into my cigarette lighter socket.
I want to connect a switch to this circuit so that it operates in the following way:
If I start the car there must be no power to the socket until I press the switch. When I turn the car off, the socket goes off. Then when I start the car again the power is off until I press the switch.

I'm guessing I'd need a relay connected to a switch but what relay and what switch? N/O, SPST? I want to go into a store and know exactly what to get without having to explain my whole story again. Also, what would the circuit diagram look like?

Hope someone here can shed some light.

you need a relay that will latch on until power is removed. You can do that with a normal relay and a N.O. push button
