Hi,

Just wanted to some advice on this whole switch-over process.

So, my test channel (425) gave me an "Signal Error" message. I called out an installer recommended by Multichoice and he claims the problem is that my dish is too small (60cm).

He says I need a 80cm dish to receive the HD signals after switchover and quote me R2300 for an 80cm aluminium dish.

Sounded a bit steep and wanted to do some research for better prices but when I check my DSTV this morning I was still receiving most of the HD channels (installer claimed they'd all be gone today).

Do I need to fork out 2K for a new dish or is there another way to get by?

Thanks

104, 105, 106, 108 is affected by today's switch. A well aligned, good quality 60cm will still work in good weather. DStv recommends a 90cm dish, but a good quality 75cm, like a Visiosat/Cahors, will be more than enough. R2300 sounds VERY steep...

A 60cm dish is perfectly adequate. The actual dish kit costs about R 650 for an 80cm aluminium dish and twin LNB, and you won't need to change the wall bracket. A good income for about 45 mins work for someone with the right equipment

If you cannot receive 425 properly, maybe the LNB needs changing. Is it more than 4 years old? Also, did you access 425 by pressing the down arrow, scrolling across to 425 and pressing OK? This is the only way to do it

Anybody know of a decent accredited installer in Cape Town in the Southern Suburbs (who's NOT trying to rip me off!)

I'm not too sure when the dish was installed. I bought and moved into the property 6 months ago where everything was installed and working fine.

I accessed channel 425 by typing in "425" on the number pad. No scrolling involved.

Go to SpaceTV. I bought a 90cm dish with all brackets for under R 400.

Did you make sure that you were on the ALL CHANNELS setting and not MY FAVOURITES when checking your signal compatibility?

If you are on MY FAVOURITES, you will get an error message.

but then he wouldn't have got a signal error, it would've just told him the channel isn't available
