Switch to network migrations sets stage for all-out cellphone rivalry

More good news... it's high time something like this is enforced, so that the consumer have a broader choice.

Icasa must watch that porting price and make sure it is not prohibitive. All I can say now is, 'may the best priced, stable network, consumer centric operator win.'

Obviously MTN and Voda want the porting cost to consumer to be as high as possible. They are very comfy atm

people don't realise the cost involved with all this, you keep your number put pay for everything else.

Nobody knows the cost yet. Regardless - If Cell C and/or virgin decide to cover the cost themselves they'll score big.

The problem is you can only switch every 2 months. I also foresee some dirty tactics from the mobile guys that we are not foreseeing atm. No way in hell they can all be this happy about number portability all of a sudden.

Every two months isnt that bad IMO. You can rest assured I'll be first out the door asap. :)
