switching between windows on a mac

Go to Apple > System Settings > Desktop & Dock - Menu Bar "Automatically hide and show the menu bar" - choose 'Never' from the dropdown

Now the dock will behave exactly like the Windows Bar ie it will stay on screen permanently.

This does not work. The dock still hides.

Ah, ok - wait - I understand - we're using different "full-screens" - I use full-screen windows (maximised windows) by double clicking in the top bar (title bar) of the window - that takes the window to full screen without hiding the Menu Bar or the Dock.

If you use the 'green' button to take the Application to FULL screen then it does hide the dock

Interesting... so green button is modal

Modal?

You can change the behaviour of the green button, to maximise the window rather than full screen the app, by holding the option key down while clicking on it.

Green button puts the tab on it's own desktop. 3 finger left and right swipe switches desktops

Picked this up on Reddit:
If what you're trying to say is that the dock doesn't appear every-time you move your cursor to the bottom, all you have to do is keep your finger on the track-pad when you move the cursor to the bottom. Do not let up your finger as soon as you reach the bottom. Keep the finger on the track-pad and the dock will show up.

It works.

You could try this with the mouse (I don't have a mouse for my Mac so couldn't test myself

To get to the Dock from a fullscreen app, just move the pointer all the way to the bottom, then swipe down again like you were going to move beyond the border of the screen and the Dock should pop up.
- It needs two movements to trigger

The Stage Manager shows the apps by moving the cursor to the far left of the screen. Then Stage Manager will pop out all the apps open.

This is very similar to what I did with Mission Control. I set it as a Hot Corner Shortcut for the bottom right of the screen. When I move the cursor to the bottom right of the screen all the apps tile on the desktop. Then I select the one that I want.

But here's the problem when I full screen an app then hit mission control, that full screen app doesn't tile. It goes to the top of the screen where the new desktop button is. Why??? I would love more if the full screen app would just tile on the desktop with the others. Is there a way around this?

I think I'm just going to stick to Mission Control because I find myself activating Stage Manager accidentally too often.

Oh. I see now. I thought it was to maximise into fullscreen. No wonder it's weird with Mission Control.

@margincall I understand that Macos doesn't work the way you expect/want it to - to be fair, that's just the way it is - it works its way.

It's like when you drive japanese and german cars and the bloody indicator stalk is on the opposite side that you're used to - you can rant the whole day but it ain't gonna change the location of the stalk.

I understand.

I just have one thing to fix. How do I prevent the app from going to a new desktop when I make it full screen? That way I can see the app tiled on the desktop with Mission Control.

Don't use the green button - double click the title bar to go 'full screen' for the application or use 'Window - Zoom'

That's not true full screen. It stops at the dock. I guess I'm going to have to make the dock smaller to get more screen room.

For now that's my strategy. Mission Control as a Hot Corner Shortcut.
