Switching from Samsung to HUAWEI

Contemplating switching from a Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus to a HUAWEI Pura 80. Has anyone switched from Samsung to HUAWEI? What has your experience been like? Do the workarounds actually make it a more seamless experience?
 
Did someone hit you on the head, are you mad.

No native Google Play Store, yes I know about GBOX but still It's not natively supported it's a hack. Certain apps will not work at all.
 
I would keep the S23 and get the P80 or P70 for testing. Let us know you works or doesn't work.

Last year, I migrated from iOS to Android. I settled on safe option: Samsung. Huawei was option 2 - I liked to the whole HarmonyOS vibe but I was not prepared to jump in with both feet as I rely on the Microsoft ecosystem for work.

I have a Huawei Matepad 11.5 S tablet and I think the hardware is exceptional, and I get the feeling Huawei is trying hard software wise.

The only issue I've found through lack of official play store support is with app purchases.. Doesn't seem to recognise purchases in the play store for apps where you "pay for pro".

All my Microsoft stuff just works, because those are external subscriptions tied to my account, not the Google Play store.
 
as excellent as the Huawei hardware is ..... I have just trained myself to ignore it because im not fussed and bothered to learn new things to make the schit that i have work as i need it to ..... i have too many Google store paid and unpaid apps (media players and remote controls etc) so i need those to just wok with no faffing around ..... so unfortunately Huawei is a no fly zone

for anyone who isn't tied into any Google store apps well IMHO have at it because the hardware and cameras are actually top notch
 
Rather look at Honor or Oppo (my choice) if you want a phone with better cameras than what Samsung offers. Vodacom has heard the complaints (mine at least 😅) that the networks don't bring in Chinese flagships. They have the Oppo Find X7 Pro and the Honor Magic 7 Pro on their website. I'd wait for the Magic 8 Pro if you wanted to get the Honor, which they released recently, since they have the 7 Pro at its normal price.

Vodacom also has the Honor Magic V5 -- one of the best foldables available.
 
I did that - switched 2 years ago. I really regretted it.
The Huawei Nova 11 phone itself is great, it charges quickly, battery is great, trouble free hardware. Still in great shape 2 years later where other phones I've had are seriously showing their built-in obsolescence by this time. (I don't get top of the range phones.)
But not speaking Google became a deal-breaker. I used Gbox but some apps aren't available, many behaved less than optimally, some crashed regularly, and when trying to locate a data-guzzler, it all got lumped under Gbox usage so I couldn't identify it. I WISH that Huawei could talk Google!
I am now using a gifted 4 year old REDMI Note which has intermittent hardware trouble - software is fine! - so I keep my Huawei as a backup and as an audiobook player at night (on airplane mode).
And when the Redmi dies, I'll buy a Samsung. Or Xiaomi if I can get it on contract.
 
If you are still tied to Google, best to stay with a supported Android device, if you aren't then you won't notice the difference.
