Switching ISP's - Wondernet vs the rest

Hi guys,

I've heard a lot about Wondernet (Seacom or Macrolan) and went around to look on their site at their prices. Although they look okay, is there anything else they can differentiate themselves on
like good service or anything else? I'm just asking the question as I'm very happy with my ISP although they are a bit more expensive than Wondernet.

Is it worth switching over to them? Or am I just better off remaining with my current ISP

Isn’t this the same Seacom who are now the least peered network in SA? So accessing a file from your neighbour or a local server could result in you only seeing this in London (400+ms)?

I’d say any other ISP who’s actually part of the South African network community and doesn’t extort other networks is likely to give you better service.

Wondernet is Seacom consumer ISP, would not touch seacom with a 10 foot pole, their routing and peering is pathetic, just have a look through the forums you will see complaints of people not being able to access websites, and local pings of 200+ to servers since it sends you half way around the world.

I think that's the best bet. I'm extremely happy with everything my current ISP delivers, I just thought maybe these guys could differentiate themselves on superior service

Ah I read about the controversy last year about them de-peering ISP's. Sounds a bit like Telkom 2.0

Well fark me, I've read through the 4 threads that exist about them and it's nothing but bad news. From drops in ping, intermittency, no responsibility being taken for problems and the local peering issue. I saw they
apparently take days to come back to you after raising incidents. It's bad, I'll stay with my current ISP then

Don't forget billing issues that you need to phone them every day for 2 weeks to try and resolve.

Guess I'm staying with my current ISP then, I don't have the time to phone almost every month for billing issues

I had a lot of problems with them, but after switching to Afrihost, it looks like the problem was that I used CloudFlare's DNS ... And on Afrihost even using Google's DNS server seems to lead to some other issues... So sticking to ISP DNS from now on.
