Going back the actual point of the thread - it could be really serious, it could be nothing. I have a similar problem, on and off, and I've been tested for a whole variety of things and I'm apparently totally healthy. So don't panic, but do have it checked out.

For short term relief, have her lie down flat and elevate her legs to a level so that her ankles are above her heart (use a pillow or something, don't just make her lie there with her legs in the air! ) This really helps a lot.

Thanks we did go to the doc and waiting for test results and stuff, would probably know by Friday the latest, swelling has gone down a lot and no discomfort at all.

Might have been the sudden surge in temperature we experienced in Cape Town the last couple of days? My mom's on her feet for most of the day depending on how busy it gets at work
