SWTOR - Beta Invite in the mail.

ok so I didnt manage to get the beta downloaded last night. I imagine I have missed my window now, and wont be able to play?

Unless they release another period for us to play in?

Cheers

No one knows yet if there will be another round of invites, guess it will depend on the results of the stress test, if not then the have to wait till 15th Dec when early acess starts

just confirmed by SWTOR that you don't have to uninstall and re-download the 20 gigs as they will be patching the beta client to be ready for early access. Hopefully patch will only be a few gigs then :)

best way is to order it on Amazon US. I got CE ordered and gonna cost me a bundle with international 3 day shipping, but you can just order standard which is much cheaper but you will take a hit on shipping. Depending on version you buy you can get early access up to 5 days before launch on 20/12 which by then hopefully you get you physical copy by (don't need game for early access just a redeemable code).

I don't think Amazon will ship to SA. I tried and it said it would not.

What did it cost to ship the CE version?

CE costs $149.95 + $49.98 for shipping then on top of that $23 for import fees deposit, so going to cost me around R1800 because of the suxxy exchange rate now :(.

Standard Version which you can order from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005B8DRVU/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details (just tried myself now) will cost you $119.16 with shipping and taxes and will ship to South Africa. You are unable to purchase CE edition at the moment as they have sold out and have no stock.

I am sure even though we cannot get in now on Origin, we should still be able to in the near future. They only said we cant preorder here in SA. Did not say we cant ever get it.

Wow that is quite expensive. I could probably ship to SA for about $20 and you probably would get no import duties. The only problem is that I have to collapse the box and put all the contents in a large envelope, like I did for 300+ WoW games.

another set of beta invites for this weekend went out yesterday, i got my invite but i am in cape town and don't have SWTOR on my laptop :(, don't suppose there any1 in cape town I can copy the client onto my external HD from?

The guild pre-launch program has closed, it is no longer possible to join a guild before the actual game goes live. The guilds that have been successful in setting up for pre-launch will be allocated a server and when you create your first character on that server, you will be automatically in the guild as soon as you log in. Everyone else can get in game guild invites after finishing the intro sequence.

Here is a very interesting pre-launch read on SWTOR:

Also keep in mind that we have a nice SA thread going here where we will be updating as soon as we know what server we will be on:

Hi guys

Quick question before I hit that "order now" button on Amazon.

I spoke to a guy at BT Games about ordering this game from Amazon and he said the issue is not in fact getting the game over here, the issue is the subscription fees going forward.

Apparently if you install you have to load a subscription (assuming credit card) method. If the system detects that the card is from SA (and other non green zone SWTOR happiness countries) it won't be accepted.

Anyone heard about this? I don't want to waste nearly a grand on the game + shipping just to find out it can't work on the dark continent.

Any help would appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Van

Bull****.

The guy's talking out of his arse.

BioWare/EA have been over this COUNTLESS TIMES: it will NOT be an issue.

Sorry, been looking for the confirmation on this for the last few days and with the official forums having gone down a few days half the google links help not at all.

So to make sure, Bioware/EA have confirmed that any old credit card will work? The only issue for SA + rest of 3rd world was the pre orders? We can order from Amazon, install and run subscription no problem?

lol... Wasn't an attack on you; just uninformed BT minions :)

Yes, any credit card will work.

The only problem has ever been acquiring a copy of the game. EA/BioWare have confirmed (repeatedly) that the game will be playable in all territories and that neither payments or playability will be region locked.

So go nuts :p

yeah sounds like the guys at BT just want you to wait so you can purchase the game from them when it gets officially launched here.

There is no region or IP blocking, Bioware have stated this over and over again. They just dont want to launch everywhere at once in order to minimise impact on servers at launch. They said the ONLY difficulty we may have is latency if we play on servers too far away.

Latency was pretty normal during beta -- 250ms--320ms. That's pretty normal for ZA and entirely playable.

I had no major hassles playing in the beta either....just lagged once badly for me ...I'm very happy with performance from my own experience so far.

Played both beta weekends and was mostly good. 250ms -300ms. Only the last saturday evening it was bad for 30 minutes.
