So...

For the tech community who dealt with or used Sybaritic...

Sybaritic stole my money in December... along with a host of other people... the dude (Graeme Simms) has liquidated that company and is now "working" at www.techstop.co.za and apparently has a "silent partner" as the new owner and he is just the single employee there...

No logic or explanation behind his story and apparently my order slipped through the cracks in the liquidation process which is why he took my money but didn't deliver anything...

anyway, shady character... dont pay by via EFT ever (or anything for that matter), or he could take your money and do the same thing again...

I received spam from them, obviously he just re-used the Sybaritic mailing list (not wise) and didn't include any unsubscribe links or information on where this company suddenly got my email address.

Reported the spam on spamcop.net, suggest anyone who gets this mail do the same.

Seriously dodgy - I also got an unsolicited email... I wonder who the liquidators are and why they haven't contacted the creditors nor placed a notice on Sybaritics website?

the dudes a shark... you can't by via card anymore (as naturally you can easily retract your money when they dont deliver), only by EFT... and when you pay by EFT, you are legally screwed to get your money back...

the rest of the site still operates as normal... except the forum of course!

"Sybaritic is closed for the festive season. We will only be able to accept orders when we resume operations in the new year."

So he stole through one company...ran it into the ground...and will now steal through another...smart..

Seems to be a loophole. Expansys revived as Orange with the same people. Not saying they were crooked though.

Dealt with Sybaritic a few times.... pre-sales service was acceptable, after-sales service was piss poor.

Also got an email from TechStop this morning... reported it to all spam lists I know of pretty much instantly. Didn't even know it had come from Graeme....

TBH, don't deal with TechStop at all...

I ordered 2 mouse pads thru this guy, he confirmed that he had stock. Didn't have.

Long story short, after a back & forth (3-4 weeks), I got my money back.

Bloody lucky I guess.

So its a case of "my service is so ****ty I need to rebrand to stay in business"

Same here - had a paid order at Sybaritic since October - luckily not too serious (around R500).
Checked Hellopeter - there is mile long list of bitter people swearing at Sybaritic.

Today I get an e-mail from TechStop saying I'll get R300 off for each purchase of R1,000 - up to the value of my unfulfilled order at Sybaritic.

How exactly does a one man shop with a business model of collecting customer money upfront, while paying suppliers probably 30 days become insolvent?

I think the MyBroadband guys should make an article out of this and inform the general public - this guy shouldn't be permitted to have an online shop on this planet again.

Thing is... I've been using Sybaritic for years, and often he would have things much cheaper than other places, and was sometimes able to find things I couldn't find anywhere else. Never had a problem, and would swear by them - all until now.
I'm buying bits and pieces from lots of smaller guys, and I'm now feeling a bit jittery - what if one of them one day decides to go awol on me after a serious order - like a new high end graphics card, or an Alienware laptop?

Is this even legal?? How is this guy not sitting in jail. Made life terrible for me when my 6 month old PC died.

DO NOT deal with this Simms character. You will not be happy.

I once read that declaring a company insolvent and then launching another company with the same line of business is a strategic move to keep all profits and money from orders (Christmas orders in this case).

If its true in this case, he should be reported for fraud as well as to SARS. There's absolutely no reason to liquidate a company and then creating another selling the exact same thing.
