Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line

SDSL would probably be fairly rare but I'm sure telkom wouldnt mind degrading their 384 service down to 64k - you probably wouldnt even have to ask them :o

theres the posibility of fiber to home - coming eventually :]

thinking of neotel and mtn's fiber in devours

ADSL is great for some smaller offices etc, but then comes the problem of 5 offices connecting via ADSL lines killing your bandwidth at head office. Leased Line is expensive and ADSL at head office is no good as the upload is only 384k. SDSL would have helped in this instance as these branches are not that critical and honestly our ADSL has been fairly reliable. *after saying that I expect an outage tomorrow* :P

Of course it doesn't help that Telkom deliberately cripple the upstream to 384 kbps.
It should be 640 kbps like the rest of the world for ADSL 1.

I have the privilege of having 640 kbps upstream on my line although I never asked for it.

Isn't the upstream on 384Kbps supposed to be 128Kbps? I only get around 100Kbps on my 384K line. You're getting ~5X better than you are paying for!
