SYN packets causes slowdown?

RogueKill....you're assuming I'm using Windows....
I left the sniffer running on the ppp interface for the sentech connection, so it'll pick up everything coming to those ports

SYN packets shutting down AP

I'm a small rural WISP. Lately I've had two instances of an Access Point being almost totally shut down. The offending computer was found to be sending thousands of SYN packets. In both cases, there were teenagers in the house running World of Warcraft. I'm not very techy as IP goes, just a nuts-and-bolts guy who builds it, wires it, keeps it working, etc., and this is the first time I've had this happen. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

That's the bane of having a public IP.

If you had a private IP, those requests wouldn't even make it to your PC.

But then, everyone would complain at the provider about Torrents not working at full speed.

The provider could block those ports to your device by default, if you have a public IP, but then bittorrent wouldnt work for most people on the default settings and the provider is in trouble again.

Unfortunately, there's no clean cut way around this for anyone.

Maybe what you can do is set a firewall rule on the router to accept x pings / second.... any excess pings will be dumped??? Doing it on both the tcp and udp packets would be good
