I do 10k steps p/day, tracking it on either my phone or my watch. Some days the steps on the two are aligned and on other days it is not.

What is the reason for this and how do we fix it?

You don’t worry about it and carry on with your life.

Ultimately I’m sure the Watch will always be more accurate and it simply uses the one with the most steps.

You have your phone on you 24/7?
Obvs not. I often take it with me for a walk so I can listen to a podcast. My question was, since I sometimes carry the phone and sometimes wear the watch, how can I align and sync the steps.

The watch and the phone work out when you carried what and tallies it up for an overall step count for the day.

Why not listen to Podcasts on the Watch?

No. It's either/or.

It syncs them up together.

You really need to stop overthinking this. Just look at the total step count in Health and accept Apple did their magic.

Health on the phone .................................................................................... or Health on the watch?

The entire point of this article is that the two do not always align.

Health on the phone is your central database of steps.

And it does align. Health works the totals out for you.
