Hey guys,

I've upgraded to iOS5 and I'm loving it, but I have been weary to sync to iCloud. I worried because you have to log in with an Apple ID. As most of you, I have 2 Apple IDs, and I'm not quite sure what effect this will have.

Has anyone tried this yet?
What were the effects?

Well, whenever my iPod Touch or iPad find a wifi connection, my address book and appointments get pushed to the device. What more effects do you need?

You do need to give a bit of thought to your setup. I found that I could eliminate the diaries that were "on my Mac" once they had been synced and just keep the iCloud diaries, with no ill effect.

Document syncing is essentially useless for now, unless you own and use two iPads (?). Only when iWork for Mac joins the syncing party will this be a serious contender, until then, use Dropbox.

What are you using the 2 ids for? If we know that, we might be able to advise you on which one to use. If you use a foreign one overwhelmingly, and the SA id is just a relic from your beginner days, then go with the foreign one.

I suppose if you were a criminal mastermind you could use the second id to maintain a secret diary: "28 November, all-day: overthrow government". :)

Well, i had quite an issue syncing as i had 2 ids on 1 email address. The biggest problem is they won't send you verification emails to confirm the account, its ridiculous.

You will have to move one to another email address or you won't be able to sync at all - took me a lot of googling to figure this out, but it is now quite a known problem. Everything sync'd to one profile will be available when you login with that profile.

Thanks for the replies guys.

@clasqm I have a South African and a US iTunes accounts. And that's what I use the two ID's for. To be able to get south african apps and access to international apps.

@phiber I already have two seperate e-mail addresses. Will it affect my apps i downloaded from the ZA account if I sync through the US one using iCloud?

my wife and I have an iPhone and we use the same appel id, so when we updated to ios 5 and iCloud it merged our Contacts and Calendar events, so we both have our own plus the other persons Contacts and Calendar events, this is why we disabled iCloud and uses iTunes to backup the info to the laptop

my iCloud ID is different to my iTunes store ID.
It works fine, backups included

Haha. Good ol Apple. The hoops they make you Apple followers jump through.

OK, I'm with you. I suggest you make a list of the SA apps. Then log on to the US store and search for them. I think you may find that most of them will be there. It is more often US publishers that feel the US Market is big enough for them to handle and can't be bothered to tick the "all countries" box when they ship. Developers in little countries need acccess to bigger markets and want to sell to tourists coming over here. IME anyway. If you can find most of the SA apps free or cheap on the US store, it may be worth your while to redownload and forget about the SA account.
