Hello Chaps :)

I'm now a little frustrated as google is not being very friendly this evening  Installed Synergy on both main PC and laptop (set main pc as server and laptop as cleint). Now, I have the laptop using the internet of the main PC and I also want to use Synergy using this ethernet connection as well. I'm a noob when it comes to networking and I would appreciate your help please :).

Yes I want to use one of my dual monitors to run off the laptop with the main PC mouse and keyboard being used with both machines. Thought it's time to make full use of the second monitor.

Thank you in advance :). (I'm using Win 7 64 Bit on main PC & XP Pro 32 bit on laptop dual booted with Linux Mint 64 Bit)

wtf guy? win7<->linux synnergy. you gonna have to hack that **** up to make it go. try running the windows binary in XP compatibility mode and make sure your mint box (and winbox) has the ports open synnergy uses. nice when it works though.

Actually, I completely disagree with this statement, since I've (or rather my colleague and me) have done it already. Synergy downloaded on linux (ok, was ubuntu) and the exe downloaded from the net and installed ont he win7 machine. After putting the settings in, it worked like a charm.

Basically, to answer the OP, since you have a single network connection between the 2 machines, both of synergy, and the internet sharing, traffic are running through that single connection. I don't think synergy uses too much bandwidth, so it shouldn't affect your internet speeds on the laptop too much. I think to answer your question: no additional networking knowledge is required to complete your setup. Simply ensure that the two machines are connected together (LAN cable or wireless), and then setup each application accordingly. they will both use the network to send data back and forth to each other.

And if you're worried that setting up synergy on the one machine as server and the other as client... well, those are just application specific settings, and don't impact the actual machine state. :)

Thank you guys :). Yes I did manage to get it to work, but for some reason only the internet works i.e on the laptop. I just can't seem to get the blinkin thing to work again. I've just rested the exercise until this weekend when I'm a little calm.
