My system idle process is always high from the time I start my pc and it fluctuates from about 60% usage to sometimes 100% usage.I ran a virus scan and it came up with nothing(norton 360).What could be the problem?

System Idle? That isn't actually using any CPU, That's how much CPU % is left from other programs running and using CPU. So say you're using Windows Media player and it's using 50% CPU, System Idle will say 50% because that's what's what's left not being used.

Ok but my core temp says all my cores are at +-60% usage when i'm doing nothing.

So nothing else is running? Not showing up in Task manager?

System idle process is an intelligent feature of XP - indicating how much resource is available to be used should the processor need to kick into gear. It's a thumb twiddler. I'm guessing some process or other is injecting itself into your cycles....see if shutting down individual processes alleviates the problem.

Idle threads were created to ensure that a thread was always available should code wish to execute. I do not think it is possible for an idle thread to execute code - since doing so would take it out of an idle state....
