T20 - Kallis v Gibbs

This is inspired by the Kallis choking thread. And some people not wanting Jacques to go.

It got me thinking that there are people who always punt Gibbs. Given I have not been an IPL20 follower, I have no idea what their respective performances have been. But I remember at a stage Kallis being comfortably ahead.

Do SA fans still want Gibbs ahead of Kallis

Gibbs in form is better than Kallis in form anyday.
 
Kallis just refuses to perform at the crunch games where as Gibbs will win you the game if he gets his eye in, depends on what type of coach you are. would you pick a guarenteed 20 odd runs and hope thats enough or go with the guy whos going to either win you the game or go for a duck

:erm: 438 game was the only one where gibbs "won" us the game and even then it was mainly thanks to the great start Smith got.

Kallis over Gibbs atm. Gibbs is just not performing well enough. As for explosive match winner, we have: Smith, Albie, AB, Boucher, Bosman. What we need is someone to put score on the board 5/6 games... Show me a better guy than Kallis to perform that role.

I still prefer Gibbs coz i dont like Kallis.
Kallis is selfish, he would throw a game away especially a 20/20.
Thats bad and adds pressure on the other batsmen.
Did you watch the Mumbai game, sometimes you need to give up your wicket for the sake of the team, if Ruyadu didnt go out, Pollard wouldnt made the score he made.
20/20 it will get to a point where kallis cant score as fast as a more destructive batsmen.
Kallis will do fine till about 12/13 over but should give up his wicket depending on the pace of the game. And I doubt he would.
Gibbs on the other hand will still cope with a faster run rate better than Kallis, you ever wonder how a batsmen with soooo many 100 only managed a top score of 135?? Almost all of the Porteas top 5 batsmen have a higher score than Kallis, he cant cope towards the end, and twenty20 is reliant on the way you perform in the last 5 overs!!!

Like i said in my other thread, they're probably a handfull who are on par with Kallis, but he still tanks in the QF/SF

Bosman isnt up to international standards whenever i have seen him play. They guy who opened for mumbai is doing well, would pick him over bosman.

Gibbs has done more than one innings dude, sometimes he only gets 30 or 40 but those 30 or 40 kick start us until he goes out and kallis plods along :D.

Gibbs and bosman to open with smithers at 3 and kallis removed totally. Never going to happen kallis will start at 3 and we have no chance in this cup as usual because kallis will cry like a little baby again if they drop him, while he is in good touch unless they open with him i do not see a spot for kallis.

Nope if you on 120 in the 16th over (which is average) with Duminy, Morkel, Roelof, DeVilliers etc next in... what would you do? Play risky cricket, basically 6 or out type of shots, Kallis wont do that. He will hit a 4, then run 2 and another 4, 10 is not bad, but 15+ an over is better!!!

Kallis go out chasing 6's? Pffffffftt no how would his stats look? Get duminy and kallis on strike again if you want 20 runs an over :D and tell them there are big hitters to come, then the magic happens when they know capable smashers are in next.

Boucher
morkel are not needed when duminy and kallis are doing their thing.

I'd take Kallis for almost any occasion. Yes there will be games where SA will be batting second and we are chasing down 220, and Gibbs at his best could win us the game, but for most games Kallis will be better. I see Kallis playing best opeing with Smith, and making sure that JP and him don't bat together.
 
Something Gibbs can never do:

Ok, maybe he could against Pinelands High 3rd 11
 
Kallis is a better batsmen than gibbs!!! And then he can bowl! He also is a fantastic catcher of the ball, but gibbs might save a few more in the field. Rather have Kallis opening in 20/20.!!!

I am willing to bet that for evey game Gibbs won SA, Kallis won SA 2 or 3....

Kallis to open with smith bosman at 3, AB at 4, albie at 5, etc etc

I will bet for every game kallis won for us there was a game he lost by batting too slowly. At least with gibbs you knew he would either go cheap or get you a good start. With kallis you know he will do his utmost to keep his wicket even if it means slowing the run rate.

Bosman needs to be in for the first 6 so he should open with kallis and smithers at 3 but we all know kallis more than likely won't open.

1 - Smith
2 - Kallis
3 - Bosman
4 - AB
5 - Albie
6 - JP Duminy
7 - Boucher
8 - Roelf
9 - Theron
10 - Steyn
11 - Another spinner or seamer as the pitch and conditions dictate.
