T20 - Kallis v Gibbs

1 - Smith
2 - Bosman
3 - Kallis
4 - AB
5 - Gibbs
6 - Albie
7 - Boucher
8 - Roelf
9 - Theron
10 - Steyn
11 - Johan Botha/Charl Langeveldt

Kallis's economy in each match and overall I think is around 100, that's the strike rate. We don't need someone to hold together the innings and get 50 off 45 balls.

Yup kallis seems to think he should bat for 20 overs and help the team, no mr kallis you should be smashing the ball in those opening overs and then as much as possible after the first 6. Kallis needs to learn to try throw away his wicket. He might find himself scoring big runs and fast as well. Quite sad to see such talent have this must keep my wicket for 20 overs mentality :(.

Problem I have is Albie is being sent in too late. I would rather have albie come in at 5 or even 4 as he showed us in the IPL what he can do when he has 5-10 overs left and not just 5 balls.

Then the "problem" of Kallis. As Kallis should play more attacking when he opens and given his good for in the IPL opening I would shift Bosman to 3 as he will ahve a go at the bowling no matter where he is slotted in :D

His international strike rate is 122.55, good enough for a guy that ''holds the innings together'', and no, sometimes you do need a guy to score 50 of 45 balls... [in fact, that is ideal]

killa, what the hell are you on about? Even though its "only" 20 overs, you will always need 1 guy to 5 out of 6 games, score you the "pedestrian" 50 of 40 balls [thats a strike rate of 120, btw]. People sometimes will say, "Ja, Kallis [at 1-3],scored 50 off 40, but mr XYZ [at 5-8] scorred 65 of 40, but what you are missing, is that mr XYZ had someone lay the foundation for him to come in, and try and hit it all over the park, sometimes mr XYZ will be more confident, because he has a Kallis at the other end.

also true, but i won't put Albie as "THE" number 4, he can float, but match scenario should dictate where he should come in...

i can agree with bosman, he will play his game, no matter where he bats...

I hope that Corrie doesn't make the same mistake that Mickey made of always sending Albie in in his listed spot. Albie shot be a floater in the order, coming in where ever he is needed.

I agree 100% :o I was only trying to point out that albie was sent in too late 99% of the times he played for SA.
When he did so well in Aus a couple of years ago it was because he had 10-15 overs left when he came in, not 2...
The same this season in the IPL, he came in with 7-10 overs left and TADA he scores huge.

How come do you think in t20 teams don't open with power hitters?

Can albie smash a new ball? Could a guy like albie take advantage of the easy boundaries in the first 6? How come do the power hitters come in when the field is setup to get them out instead of coming in when the fielding side is setup to concede epic amounts of runs?

Maybe my understanding of why certain players cannot open may be lacking but in t20 it is about smashing 4's and 6's and there is no better time to do it than upfront in the first 6. Anyone care to open my eyes? :D.

How about albie and bosman to open?

Can you imagine if they fire :D.
Yeah that would be ducking epic!!! Or we could be 0/2 after 2 overs.... But I would be prepared to take that risk. :D

As for the Kallis vs Gibbs debate, they 2 very different cricketers. I would include both in my starting line up. Gibbs is a superb fielder an elegant and destructive batsman when he fires and brings huge experience to the table.

Kallis reasonable 20/20 bowler, SA's and one of the worlds most gifted and talented batsman. Would be foolish to leave him out. Couple with that he was the 2nd highest run scorer in this years IPL, 2nd only to the Jedi Master himself Tendulkar... How can you leave him out??!!!!... You can not...

New ball = epic seam movement. Seamers are harder to play. Ever opened the batting against a new ball? It is much harder to face a new ball than an older ball that does not do as much imo.

Ps we are playing another warm up game today at 13:30 against england.

Hmmm but the ball flies off the bat faster when it's new and majority of the fielders are inside the ring?

Gayle seems to enjoy it, bosman loves it. So why can these big hitters do it but not albie? Pollard for instance would have a field day opening although when he gets going does not matter how the field is set i guess :D.

Kallis over Gibbs anyday.

How long are we going to keep on saying that an innings from Gibbs is just around the corner. We have been around the block so many times

Lots of Kallis fans, lets see what happens...

Kallis is run rate killing chop :(.

Nothing will ever change that. Did it in the 50 over game, did it in the t20's got dropped cried like a baby now he is back in and doing it again :(.

Seems even kumble agrees jk http://www.cricketain.com/ipl/2010-ipl/kumble-blames-kallis-slow-batting-for-loss/

“He should have gone after the bowling in the first six overs but it did not happen today. Yup typical kallis.

He should have made a move-on which did not happen today and that put pressure on the guys coming in. You can’t expect someone like Robin [Uthappa] to see you through [every time].”

Reminds me of the pakistan game, big hitters to come and kallis plodding singles

Great t20 games we will have with kallis batting for us.

Let me guess, It was Kallis' fault that Gibbs dropped the catch in the 99 World Cup

Don't quite understand dude. Explain why it would be kallis's fault? What does a dropped catch have to do with batting slow and people actually recognizing he may not be suited to t20? The only reason he is our team is because he threatened to quit when he was dropped

Sigh, Quite simple actually, you seem to blame Kallis on everything even though there is 10 other players. Cricket is a team sport where EVERYBODY should contribute not keep on relying on one person.

As I said before look how well Delhi Daredevils did with there so called "slog at all costs" team.

Even Sachin "Should have been the subject iin the South Park episode called 200 instead of Prophet M" Tendulkar strike rate wasnt exactly that high

I don't blame kallis for everything, are you able to read? I am saying he is slow which puts pressure on the rest of the team. The sad thing is kallis is an amazing batsmen with just about every shot in the book, i cannot see a reason why he feels the need not to use those shots and smash the ball like a crazy man.

Honestly kallis should be hitting 80 runs off 30 deliveries with the talent he has but for some reason he does not think he should try incase he goes out. If someone could unleash the inner kallis beast he could be the most destructive batsmen on the planet. So i know you are getting all defensive about kallis but you have not once denied kallis bats slow, so i assuming you know he does.

O sachin also bats slow? So WTF does that have to do with kallis batting slow? All i want from kallis is for him to go out guns farkin blazing, is that so hard for him to do? Is it so difficult for kallis to realize this is 20 overs and he does not need to last 20 overs? If kallis lasts 15-20 overs you can be damn sure we will score low or lose the match.

"i live in bangalore & obviously a big bangalore fan. but today i was furious at the way kallis went about in their chase after restricting deccan to 151. rahul dravid & uthappa played great, but what the hell was kallis doing??? he didnt try to hit a single aggressive shot, he just kept nudging the ball for singles. 27 off 37 in T20 is just unacceptable. If he would gone out earlier, I am sure Taylor or White would have brought Bangalore home"

This will be the batsmen we have in our line up haha what a bloody fail :(
