Tablet comparisson

There really isn't any competition to the iPad2 atm. BB Playbook, HP Slate, Xoom, Galaxy 10.2... none of them offer anything even close to the iPad's ecosystem and user experience. Samsung even decided to go back to the drawing books when it was debuted.

I think BIS is the it's biggest selling point. Free surfing and email vs paying with the others. I love BIS and BBM all my mates have a BB and we chat for free and i can surf for plus receive email.

Granted it's not free but 59 bucks is pretty decent when you can surf and get mail for 59 bucks. How much is the per gb pricing without BIS. sms's are like 50 cents, thats 25 sms compared to the 100's of bbm's i make a week.

Is there another platform that offers browsing and email for 59 bucks?

Postman i would not buy a device based on it's screen, i doubt the other devices have such shocking screens that ips would be the deal maker. Can you run skype type apps on these tablets? Would it be free on BIS?

Our company execs dont go for Iphone's anymore they say the battery life sucks and it is built in...
I think apple sucks, their products are just fashion statements. i guess if u not into tech u dont mind being locked down.

Why do so many people assume that the playbook is going to be offered with the same r59 BIS that the handsets come with? The handsets with their small screen lend themselves to the heavy compression that BIS enjoys.

I am assuming it because it would make sense to offer it purely as a marketing ploy just like the cellphone, i wanted an iphone but BIS and BBM sold me on the BB. BB sell like crazy purely because of BIS. It is nothing special and there are better phones on the market but none of them offer BIS.

In terms of marketing the fact that BB offer unlimited browsing and email for 59 bucks has practically made it the biggest selling cellphone on the market, or am i mistaken? I don't know what bandwidth costs in other countries but over here it is damn expensive and BIS is a deal maker for sure so i would assume they would offer it but you may be right and if they don't offer it then i will look into the other options.

Tablets are nothing but app running screens. Apple's 60 000+ app is the deal breaker. I wouldn't touch anything besides an ipad for atleast the next year or so (pun intended). The other ecosystems will fill up but its going to take time.

Also, i think its been fairly well established that 10 inches is the perfect screen size.

Well even if it does, it would make more sense to get a 2 or 5 gig cell c data bundle (the ipad 2 supports 900).

R86/month for 2 gigs.
R166/month for 5 gigs.

I'd rather enjoy the full internet at proper hspa+ speeds.

In this market it's been very successful but outside of SA "uncapped" data plans are becoming the norm for many/most networks so the whole R59 plan either a)doesn't even exist, or b)isn't particularly impressive. I really do not see Vodacom or MTN allowing it on their networks at that price point no matter how much it should be. With the feature set of the playbook it is going to be a very high bandwidth device, just like the iPad.

Fair points but BIS for the BB cellphone is pretty good. Wow 166 bucks is insane, changes everything now about my tablet needs :D

...and you will only need those gigs when you are away from your home or office wifi network. R86 for 2 gig removes the blackberry advantage.

BIS for the cellphone is awesome. :)

It would be much more attractive to me if I didn't have to fork out the R999 or R1999 in one shot. I'd run out and get a mifi tomorrow. :)

You're not hoping that you'll still be able to only pay r59 pm and use that connection with your playbook are you?

That's kinda of what I'm hoping?

Also believed your connect your BB to it via BT and use the phone BIS?
