I've had my iPad 2 for 2 years and recently sold it to get an Android tablet and thought a few months without a tablet wouldn't be that bad. I'm now missing a tablet ...

I was hoping the Nexus 10 2 would be launched December and would be out here Marchish - but I guess this won't be happening. The second choice was the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 2014 Edition ... but again I've heard nothing and I doubt March for this tablet.

So third would probably be the Sony Xperia Z tablet - any one have one or used it?

It has a better screen than most Android tablets out and had a Quad Core 1.5ghz / 2GB RAM - which should be OK for performance? I am worried about the colours though, as I felt even my S3 had better colours than the phone version.

Software wise - how are Sonys? I've never owned one ... as much bloatware as Samsung?
Updates alright?

I had the Xperia Z (the phone)... Software is good though I actually prefer Touchwiz on my Note 2. The phone screen wasn't very good but I have to say as a phone, it was great. Build quality is amazing and feels great. Maybe have a look if Orange can get you the Galaxy Tab you are looking for otherwise the original Nexus 10? I'm not saying the Tablet Z is a bad idea but I feel that its a tad overpriced

The original Nexus 10 was amazing - but lacked 3G - otherwise would be the ideal tablet. I've been praying for a follow up and they've threatened for months, but as there is no announcement yet it seems pointless.

Orange .... ?

I got the tablet z, looks awesome, runs incredibly well, screen is pretty good as well watch a lot of videos on it. Also came with a free dock that my tablet is put in when not in use.
Software wise Sony don't really stray far away from stock anymore. There is little bloat, not sure on updates as they are prone to forget devices very quickly so will see.
Also getting accessories in SA isn't easy :-( I also have a Xperia P which was practically dropped by Sony after 3 months.

Thanks guys.

It seems Vodacom are one of those companies that advertise speciails without stocking. Tried all stores around me and they're out - so I doubt I can get this :/

I've used the Tablet Z. Lovey piece of equipment- solidly built, good looking and it has Android.

it has similar specs to the Nexus 7 2013, so performance was snappy enough when I used it. Would have loved one of my own, but I have the 7.

The best tablet out now is the Samsung Note 10.1 2014, and this has been out for a few weeks already !

Anywhere on a contract though?

FNB or Vodacom?

Got two work colleagues to grab the Xperia Tablet Z and they both love them.

Would be my choice of Android tablet.

IMO Xperia Z Tablet is still the best tablet available. And the great thing is that Sony are committed to updates, and the 4.3 update was released today. Will probably take a few days/weeks to reach us OTA though.

Finally got it - quite a nice device!

I have XBMC running at home - is there a way I can stream to the device from it?

I noticed you could download the application at the XBMC site, but then it relies on local media rather than streaming?

Can you make a samba share on the xbmc if so you can download es file explorer and browse to it. One trick I did to browse my Windows laptop.

But then won't it download all the plots, posters, rating etc to the tablet?

Oh right okay never tried that, I just wanted a network share, don't really need the info.

Use yatse for xbmc. It can be used as a remote as well as to stream from your xbmc.

Ed file explorer to browse your samba shares.

Bubble upnp to do two way streaming.

The full versions are well worth the prize on these apps.

Why not Galaxy Note 10.1 2014? You say something about March in your original post but most places have them in stock. No demos though.

Yea I could have waited to March for thr right tablet ... But I got impulsive and got the Sony. It really isn't bad at all

Where are the 2014 edition tabs? Cannot even see them advertised
