Takealot cancelling orders when it is too cheap

I've been gone too long to confirm how their order system works now, but they have the concept of a product line and then marketplace sellers and takealot linked to that product.

When they cancel an item but it still shows in stock it can be:

* You bought from a marketplace seller that no longer has stock. It's like ordering a KFC Bucket from Springbok and seeing a branch in Amzimtoti still has it on its menu.

* You bought from Takealot but only marketplace sellers now have stock and it cannot be reordered.

* You bought from Takealot, went out of stock at supplier and was flagged as can't reorder. Order cancelled. When you check on their site again, they have switched to a new supplier, or the supplier has stock on order again.

* They screwed up their catalogue listings for that product or department ... again.

* Someone in the call centre hit the cancel button without confirming ... again.

As you can see it can originate from business rules to muppets in the business.

Again stop making assumptions, they may do it but it’s not official.
Yeah when I see people all over the world complaining about it, I'll update my opinion on this.
But for now its hard to find people complaining that Amazon didn't deliver, honour warranty, allow returns, etc.

Otherwise you may be making another thread because Amazon doesn’t handle warranty on your behalf when it isn’t their product.
But they do handle the warranty on your behalf.
Even reimburse you for shipping back.
I've bought hard-drives and sent some back that failed.

Also bought light bulbs from them, but in that case they just said dispose of the non-functional bulbs safely and sent me some new ones.

What really annoys me: I interviewed at Takealot some years back.
At the time, one of their main guys was telling me how they want to deliver the kind of service that Amazon has, in SA.

But it really hasn't improved at all.
I would say that with these 3rd party sellers it has become worse for a lot of people.
Its a great feature to roll out but the cost has been that the customer experience suffered.

I wonder sometimes what they do over there.

This just happened to me. The price was R899, ordered 6x. Then they canceled after a week of no communication as to why the item was not delivered.. I see the same item is available at R929, yet they cannot refund me to my credit card, and now have to do EFTs, while someone from TakeAlot mails me to say it failed, yet their mobile app shows that the refund option is no longer available.

This is becoming a nightmare. Not a happy camper.

Takealot is not what it used to be.
They made mistakes in about 6 orders the last few months.

One example ( this happened twice already )

I returned an item that had a missing part.
They claimed no stock and credited my account.
Their website clearly showed that the item was in stock(same seller) and I noticed that they had more than 20 units left.
The price has gone up since I bought it so now they rather lie and refund in order to save money.
Rather UNETHICAL imo.

They eventually send me the product after I had to make some serious threats.

Having now had every single order from Everyshop messed up - I'm now more appreciative of Takealot's service, especially the returns process.

My most recent experience is where Everyshop took almost 6 weeks to collect an item where they mixed sizing up, and by the time they had collected and refunded, the items were no longer in stock. I then ordered in another colour at a higher price and again...mixed the sizing up and took another 4 weeks to refund. Absolutely ridiculous that they advertise UK sizing and deliver US sizing. Takealot would've collected and processed the return within 1-2 days max and not made the same mistake twice.

Overall Takealot's level has service has diminished over the years, but what can you expect when there aren't any formidable competitors keeping them in check.

Hectic. That has never happened to me. The only time I think it is fair is if something is sold for R100 that was supposed to be R1000.

But cancelling an order by cause of R30. That is a low blow.
They could have offered me the option to pay in R30 x6 and let me decide instead of cancelling. Back to re-order, waiting, maybe the same thing will happen again. Almost feel like they are holding onto the the money to earn interest and then releasing it. Their call centre cannot tell how many people ordered, only see how much is in stock and in which warehouse.

herr-der-verboten already cued the music.

Had this happen at Makro and First Shop... They always say item is out of stock to cover themselves then a few days later item is magically back in stock

  1. Send e-mail requesting information with regards to stock
  2. First call centre operator, "we have 6 in stock at Johannesburg".
  3. Make payment
  4. 2nd call centre operator, "we have 18 at Cape Town, 24 at Johannesburg"
  5. 3rd call centre e-mail, "we have 18 left in Johannesburg"
Does the stock fluctuate that much in 10 minutes?

Something isn't right. One thing I can give to them, they do at least answer the phone quickly. But the information I'm receiving seems very inconsistent.

Hi all

Does everyone else also have this problem with Takealot:

I often find good deals on Takealot, then order only for them to either send me something completely different (and cheaper) or claim that there "is no stock at the supplier".
Then the usual problem of refunding it as credit by default instead of into my account.

Its happening on every 2nd order now.

It is so annoying I've just started avoiding them completely and order from Amazon.com exclusively.
At least Amazon stands by their price

This doesn't include the two times I got items that are CLEARLY the wrong thing only for the supplier to then "refund"
This is still happening to me. My second cancellation from them which was being fulfilled on a Takealot supplier deal for Salomon boots and I was credited after they held my funds of R2,700 from the 19th November to the 4th December, by which time they realized they were ‘out of stock’!

Had this twice now in a Month.

Items from Takealot itself, not merchants on Takealot

One Christmas present, said 5 items in stock, selected standard 2 day delivery.
On day item was supposed to be delivered its suddenly cancelled due to "No stock"
Next day item appears as a "fulfilled by Takealot" Merchant item at 50% higher price

Now a "50% off"HDD that showed over 20 in stock, also Takealot direct stock is suddenly cancelled the next morning as "No stock available"

For the first time in years I recently also had a couple of orders cancelled. Due to this happening in the past I only purchase items that are in stock at Takealot and all has been well until now, the problem seems to be rearing it's ugly head again. The items I buy are not always at the cheapest price either so it's got nothing to do with bargain hunting.

I have an order pending and one item in the order was cancelled by them. If I refresh the product page it's available from same supplier. What gives?

At the same price that you paid as per your invoice?

Happened to me as well. TAL cancelled an item of the order because I think it had a voucher applied to it.

I recently had an order of 3x items (R94 ea) cancelled.

Was an older RAID enclosure that can be found for R300 or so on Bobshop, so I figured it was old stock clearance.

Takealot cancelled the order, sent me a generic email stating it was a pricing error and relisted it for R610 per unit when I checked the link again.

I am starting to lose my patience with Takealot. Now, I know that they have third-party sellers. The issue I am having is that they keep on sending me the wrong products. These products aren't replaced. All they do is give you your money back. This is akin to canceled orders.

From my experience with Takealot, they have NEVER replaced an item. Sometimes, they don't honour the return at all, mostly when it is consumables. This can come at a premium. I don't know whether this is on Takealot or their third-party sellers.

Today I again received the wrong product. I received an item that isn't even sold by the same third-party seller. Did warehouse packing mess up? The return has been submitted.

I already know how this process will go since it has the same pattern over and over. Final straw.

This, Takealot, is why people order on Temu.
