Takealot - Excellent Service

lives up to the promise of the reviews?

I hope for your sake not... did you read them?

always a good idea to read bad reviews as well esp if there are only 11 in total.

there were only those two negative reviews and IMHO what were those guys expecting for R2k - all the other reviews were fairly positive and i don't have really lofty expectations and when it comes to things like this i'm pretty easy to please as long as its delivered with everything required to assemble it (some chairs are delivered sans the screws and bolts) and if it doesn't break in the first three years (after which i should be able to afford a really nice chair) then to me it was money well spent for a decent temporary solution

Get an office chair. Don't waste money. These chairs are really poor quality.

would you consider this one better - this is at my absolute limit - i wont spend more on a chair right now and i definitely need a chair because my old chair is getting shabby ie cover is tearing up and the foam is almost nonexistent because the chair is almost 10 years old (was Makro's best available office chair when i bought it 10 years ago)

in terms of the reviews - it seems like they are just printing the same generic reviews for every gaming chair in their lineup - and whatever chair i get i intend to get this for the keyboard and mouse

You are wasting money. But get it if you want to get a new chair every 6-12 months. Otherwise if you want the gaming look chair you not going to spend less than R6000-R7000 for an entry level chair.

Rather look at a good Ergonomic Office Chair.

I'll avoid anything with the "pillows" though, especially those with the straps around chair. So rather go for a more affordable office ergonomic, or save up for something more like this, or take out the credit card:

Don't know about that stand thing. Doesn't look practical. But it's takealot, you can easily send it back.

I have one of these and works great: (Swiss Cougar - Ergonomic 17"Laptop - Lap Desk with Media Slot for Cellphone)

100% agree, learnt lessons on cheaper chairs and gaming chairs.

okay - so after a bit of deliberation i landed up ordering this from takealot

Stealth Elite 2.jpg

it seems a fair bit better than most of the cheaper chairs and i really overstepped my budget on this spend but this should suit my current needs - and a pic with the footrest extended

Stealth Elite 1.jpg

and about the platform thingy i landed up ordering this - the idea is that i can use the keyboard and mouse with separate height and tilt adjustments for each and since it also has wheels it will hopefully just move along wherever i move the chair - and i will have it adjusted to more or less to the height of the armrests and it should in theory seem like an extension of the armrest

heartdeco2.jpeg

so i have gotten two SMS'es from takealot stating that something will be delivered on Monday and another stating that something will be delivered on Tuesday - so i suppose that they will send them one at a time instead of in the same delivery - and in terms of takealots service lets see if the goods arrive on time and with no missing parts and that i can assemble the stuff with no issue - because some of the reviews have been complaining about missing parts

there was actually a better looking gaming/racing style seat available which was the same price as the chair i ordered but at the time i ordered it was only available in full red so i rather got this one which is Black and grey and costs R100 more than the black and white version but i felt that it would be easier to keep the grey clean compared to the white - here's a pic of that other chair - i was tempted to cancel the one i ordered and replace it with this because it reclines a lot more but i'm still unsure between the two - though if the Stealth elite chair arrives with missing parts and i send it back i will probably order the Kamikaze Elite instead

Kamikaze 2.jpg

and another pic of it reclined to 155 degrees and footrest extended

i had a good long look at your links and i cant really extend my budget to the pricing in your links and the lap table you suggest is great for using a laptop or keyboard on a sofa but on this chair the armrests would get in the way and you cant really rest it on the armrests unless you add extensions to the armrests like i did with my previous chair

chair_zpsa49d5c85.jpg~original.jpg

i don't want to drill into the armrests on the new chair - i did this mod around 10 years ago on this office chair that i got from Makro - and i'm still using it but the faux leather is tearing now hence the need for a new chair

If you like your existing chair, why not just reupholster it? Maybe this time with real leather?

May be cheaper then buying a new chair?

nah - it will need new foam and then real leather  will probably cost more for a makeover than the brand new chair i have ordered

beside the old chair is already 10 years old so how much longer before other things start falling apart on it so its just more sensible to get a new chair even if its not the one i really want as a temp solution for now and when i can afford those expensive ergonomic models i can make a more serious purchase but hopefully getting around 3 to 4 years out of the temp one - besides it is mainly for working on the PC which i'm needing to do less and less nowadays

okay - this time out it was okay buying from takealot - the stuff arrived to my sisters place today and I picked it up from her at around 2PM - heres the result - the chair is IMHO good enough to last three to four years and time will tell, but even though the bits of it that you don't see are not made of the best materials but its sturdy enough and comfortable to sit on and while it definitely won't be as comfy as those ergonomic chairs it will be better to sit on than my old torn chair, That table is pretty lightweight so not really going to use it at my bedside for breakfast in bed but it is perfect for the laptop or keyboard

i don't know why so many people in the reviews were complaining about rusty parts and missing parts - none of that here and i have spaced this thing out in my room - it is just fine and im happy with it ..... so as far as Takealot goes this was a plus experience with them BUT only one real complaint - the guys making the chair put it into a terrible box - it was falling apart though it did keep the chair pretty much protected till it reached me but it would help to carry and load into cars and bakkies if it was a decent box - if they sort that out then my complaint disappears

heres the final result and im happy with how it works together - its exactly like i imagined it

NOT A COMPLAINT

I see I have orders which are pushed back on their delivery dates, and as given notice:

Delivery Delays in Western Cape Areas

Some deliveries may be delayed due to Weather conditions in the Western Cape. Affected customers will be notified of a new scheduled delivery date.

For all the people driving out there, get back home safe at the end of the day.

Hey, im considering getting the same chair and im wondering how its faired a year since you bought it? Thanks..

Hey, im considering getting the same chair and im wondering how its faired a year since you bought it? Thanks..

i would say that it depends on exactly what you need it for - if for long hours of hard core gaming then a proper name brand chair might serve you better ..... I got that chair for general purpose usage and it does a pretty good job of that BUT it does have a few niggles for example the armrests keep getting loose so every now and then you have to grab a screwdriver and tighten them - the screws that they provided don't seem to be of the best quality so those armrests keep getting loose

then the bits of it that are embroidered white are pretty difficult to keep clean if you perspire if while you sit on the chair - especially on the neck rest - the Pleather is still in pretty good nick but given that its way softer than what i had on the old chair i don't think that this one will give me the 10 years of service that the old chair did but for me three to four years is what i'm after and anything above that is a bonus but a name brand gaming chair (like the Razer or Cooler Master chairs) will be better ..... definitely more expensive but definitely better

this one also has allowed the gas strut that its one to slip once or twice - the old chair i got from Makro took 7 years before that happened - so while its not a regular thing it has happened once or twice so for heavier people or for people who are just heavy on their chairs this one might not be the answer

in terms of comfort and ergonomics - it is perfect for my usage but some people may prefer a more comfortable chair and i have subsequently seen and tried out some office chairs that are way more comfortable than this one - though as i said for my general purpose usage this one is more than adequate - i do like the neck rest and it suits the way i sit more than the back cushion at the back rest does

so my conclusion is simply that this is between the ergonomic and proper gaming chairs and i bought it for that purpose - if you really want a chair for gaming there are many better and if you want ti entirely for comfort there are many better - but this is the one i bought as a general purpose chair and i'm still pretty happy with it despite the small niggles but it does require a bit more looking after than i would have liked ..... still it does a decent job at what i needed it for so i shouldn't be complaining too much

EDIT : i forgot to mention that the footrest is not the strongest feature of the chair and continuous prolonged usage will probably make it eventually break so i rarely use it but the room i have the chair in doesn't really have enough space to allow me to extend it so that still works out good enough for me ..... a small suggestion from my side since the footrest was something i actively sought - don't actually bother - i tried it around twice and the novelty wore off and then it just became like a "bore chore" so if you don't really need the footrest spend the money on a better chair that has fewer features but thats built better ..... just IMHO

That is a very long post to say that it is poor quality as expected. :) I stand by one would be better of to invest in an affordable office chair that is still comfortable for long hours.

just to clarify and not to argue ..... i understand that you initially said it would be poor quality ..... and if you read what i say, i actually am saying that it is not as bad as other people expected it to be, and that it is doing the job i bought it for - it is way better than the other gaming chairs that i have encountered in "house and home" and some of the local gaming shops and way better than the cheapies that some of my other friends have purchased - and yes there will be better out there and i will attest to that but you are going to pay a LOT more to get that better stuff ..... and to me this one was worth the money if you wanted it as a general purpose chair - its too expensive to be a secretaries office chair but it would be excellent at that ..... though the company directors will not appreciate it since it isn't the plush comfy high tier stuff that they are used to (some of the guys in the retirement home where i live have some of those but they all were above R10k in price) and all those guys are all actually company directors and owners

You should rather take my post to mean that it gives you exactly what you pay for ..... at least it did for me ..... no more and no less AND if someone else deems that to be poor quality then so be it, but its still doing the job i bought it for so its well worth the money i paid ..... and those niggles i pointed out are irritating and they could be taken as signs of poor quality but i couldn't afford any better at the time

i have no issues if someone else takes whatever i said to mean that the chair was poor quality BUT then i would not have been as satisfied with it as i am if that were truly the case and its definitely better than a lot of the R2000 and R3000 chairs floating around that are just actually horrible ..... and truth be told if this one was horrible i would have had no qualms in saying that but to me this one is far above a pass mark and if i had to put numbers to it then it is at least a 70% rating in almost all respects ..... and you really cant expect any better than that in any aspect for R4k and IMHO to reach an 80% average rating you would be spending at least three times more

so really i got what i paid for  😉 and i'm happy with that ..... but you are correct in that somebody else may prefer a more ergonomic chair but those things are too bendy (and expensive) for me so all i can really say is ..... each to their own

Takealot service is generally good, but they're becoming more and more greedy. I was about to order a R1500 item, and still had to pay R35 for free delivery the next day. Free delivery was only the day after that.

When I buy something I pay R35 to collect it. Rarely do I return items, but twice when I did, they refunded only the amount I paid for the item, not the R35.

When I queried this, both times they refunded the R35, no questions asked, but apologies for what they say is probably a clerical error (lol)

The second time I realized how difficult it became to contact a human at Takeot.
