Shopping on Takealot.com this morning.

I had this Acer A3 tablet in my cart and when I checked out the price was R1300 higher. WTF!

Is this a Takealot scam just to drive traffic to the site?

No, it's not a scam.
They just often change their prices when you go to checkout so it's a good practice to double check.

You most probably missed the special, the sold out very fast. So might have not refreshed the page before going through to checkout.

Site seems down at the moment. Maybe an issue on their back end?

Also, was the A3 part of their daily deals? If so, they only sell a limited amount at the daily deal price. When those are up, they sell em at the normal price. This is what I experienced a few months ago. Not sure if they've updated the system since.

Those tablets were on promo for R1999 for limited quantities as part of the daily deals. While you had it in your cart, the promo quantities sold out. As you were probably well aware of..

This isn't a scam, just logical. Also, not mentioning it in your OP is really a ****tty practice.

So if i go to Makro and load the special item in my cart, then on the way to the till they increase the price. Is that fair?

VERY different circumstances, I could log onto takealot, load the deal into my cart and then never purchase it? Lost sale for Takealot.

Of course it is. The special is just the online version of 'the first 50 customers to purchase this item get a discount'.

I seem to have missed many of the Takealot specials. I thought I was signed up to their newsletter but wasn't. Were there any 3.5" External Hard Drives on sale? I'm on the market for another 2 or 3TB.

Of course it's a scam. Don't ever visit their website again. Do not pass Go. Do not collect R200. :p

Actually, I'm astonished that you can even ask such a stooped question on a public forum. Think for two femtoseconds before posting. It's quite obvious they're a reputable company with a sound ethics. You either missed out, or their systems fell over. It happens. No malintent or scam.

If they specified that it is only the first 50 customers gets it at the price and you happen to customer number 51 because you were browsing too long - then yes.

If I see a daily deal I want I make sure to purchase it first and then browse the site for other things that might interest me. Sometimes the daily deals can sell out really quickly.
