TAKEALOT scam?

Those tablets were on promo for R1999 for limited quantities as part of the daily deals. While you had it in your cart, the promo quantities sold out. As you were probably well aware of..

This isn't a scam, just logical. Also, not mentioning it in your OP is really a ****tty practice.

Not so logical as not everyone does this.

Logging in and having item in cart should keep it for a while, say 10 min. That should generate a potential sold out message for others, until such a time as the cart is freed (abandoned). I think that's a more fair way of doing it. I know at least one foreign site which engages in "click wars" in terms of limited stock which does this. They cap the limit how long you can keep the stuff in the cart though but it's usually 30min if you're logged in. It's 10 min if you're not logged in.

It would be better to have the special listed as "OUT OF STOCK" and not in the cart at the higher price.

Or even better, have the cart expire for that item if the price changes.

If they specified that it is only the first 50 customers gets it at the price and you happen to customer number 51 because you were browsing too long - then yes.

I don't think B&M's do that. They don't want you to rush to check out. They want you to browse other stuff and will honour the stock. 50 pieces of stock will be displayed and if that gets grabbed and put in trollies, that's it. Sometimes you get a sticker or a ticket or a special bar coded label with the cheaper price. The other way to do this is reminiscent of bait and switch. You may say it's not meant to be that, but for many people it is, and frankly all of marketing is a type of bait and switch.

Of course it's a scam. Don't ever visit their website again. Do not pass Go. Do not collect R200. :p

Actually, I'm astonished that you can even ask such a stooped question on a public forum. Think for two femtoseconds before posting. It's quite obvious they're a reputable company with a sound ethics. You either missed out, or their systems fell over. It happens. No malintent or scam.

Hi Arthur,

There are better - i.e. - more honest and clear ways of doing this which also reduce the possibility of scandal. One could think of more prudent ways of doing things than not. If I make an offer to purchase an item at R2000 and suddenly at check out it happens to cost R3300 I may just not realise it and purchase it anyway.

Thanks
