Takealot takes website offline

He he he, no worries. Not buying anything in any event today. The only business that will get money from me is my local Spar when I buy my groceries for today.

I hope we will see a nice article on the competency of our local online stores and their tech staff.

I see a few has fallen when they got more than 100 visitors online.... loot.co.za, incredible.co.za, takealot.co.za, dionwired.co.za - just to mention a couple.

Takealot was suffering from slow load times and unresponsive pages minutes into Black Friday 2015.

Redundant servers and load balancing, not so difficult to implement.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA that's what you ******s get for all your boasting this week about increasing capacity!

Useless twats...

Seriously, fire the Infrastructure Manager, and your software Architect.. and the entire executive level because they're all incompetent.

Maybe its time to look at systems/providers that can grow when demand is high ala akamai and azure

They've moved quiet heavily into AWS from what I know..

So clearly the way they've built the site is the actual problem.

Yeah, I'd like to show some sympathy and say "you know, things were different back when it was take2, so the way it was written may be legacy so not scale easily, small team and all"

But then I remember they were given over a billion rand and made promises this time around... and I laugh.

How hard is it to maintain a separate webpage for Black Friday specials and a totally separate checkout? That way they would not risk having their normal site go down. Possible?

Entirely possible if they had a clue how to do enterprise scale but they clearly dont

They should take a lesson from shopify, was watching on of their scaling videos. They ensured they could dynamically scale to 300M users for this black friday sale. SA numbers are laughable compared to those.

Do you want to confuse them even more? They can't even manage one site, let alone two.

So two weeks of bull**** articles on how they're preparing for black friday and first thing their site is down.
What a joke.

Wonder how much revenue they missing out on with this "little" mishap.
Couple of VERY pissed-off executives I can imagine.
