Good Afternoon Forum,

I dont know if I am doing something grievously wrong here but it seems to me that buying stock from Takealot works out cheaper then buying directly from distributors like Pinnacle and Axiz.???

I live on the lower south coast so I have to factor in getting to durban to collect stuff, takealot will send this stuff to me for free... How exactly are we supposed to compete with that?

My company is small, and doesnt do massive sales, but still, this seems a bit daft

I usually buy from Frontosa & Rectron, so I'm not really saving anything.... But being able to order something the morning & its there when I get home is a definite plus... Saves me hours in traffic not having to collect it myself :D

Do you only deal with the 2 above mentioned distributors?

I think it could also be because distributers have premises they have to pay for (rent or purchase) and that is worked into the price. I don't think Takealot has storage facilities.

The more you buy from distributors the less you pay, it becomes quite easy to compete with players such as take a lot and still have a good margin. Factors such as collection cost will defiantly play a big roll when staring up so try and negotiate free delivery with your suppliers or atleast make sure you spend enough on each order.

We are fortunate to be 20min away from all the suppliers up in JHB so free delivery is almost always guaranteed

I would like to see you compare SSD.... TA wasn't cheaper I'd had to go with rebeltech.

The problem with purchasing from Takealot is that if there are any problems with components, you get stuck with waiting for repairs and you dont get much, if any, technical support. Aside from Frontosa, Rectron and other distributors have a fast in warranty swap out, assuming there is stock. So in general, distributors are better. Of course, if your store is in the middle of the karoo then takealot is a better logistical choice. Everything is relative.
