TAKEALOT.com - SA’s second biggest online retailer selling books, DVDs, games, CDs, electronics toys and much more - was founded originally as TAKE2.co.za in 2002 by seven investors from Cape Town. Despite limited resources and investment, the online retailer built up a very loyal customer base and in 2010 was voted as SA’s favourite online retailer by leading online comparative shopping engine Jump.co.za.

This saw the co- acquisition of the company last October by Kim Reid, former Naspers senior executive, together with Tiger Global Management, a New York-based hedge fund with more than US$ 9.5billion under its control. Tiger has been steadily investing in emerging market Internet-related businesses all over the world including countries like China, Brazil, Russia, India and, of course, South Africa.

Over the past 12 months the online retailer had in excess of 45 000 customers, over 150 000 orders with revenues in excess of R75million. Over 400 000 items were delivered safely to customers over this period.

TAKEALOT.com has an experienced, motivated management team backed by a credible US Hedge Fund with access to capital, worldwide knowledge and expertise. The new leadership team is investing heavily in growing the business. This investment includes rebranding, a new platform and technology, above-the-line marketing, investigating new product categories and reengineering logistics to ensure faster delivery that has resulted in a new Johannesburg warehouse being established and more exciting delivery options on the way.

TAKEALOT.com’s goals are to:

• Become Africa’s fastest growing, simplest, most customer centric internet mall
• Provide a wider product offering
• Increase depth of categories
• Continue providing in-depth consumer service, interaction and relevance
• Drive revenues past R1-billion within five years
