Takealot's R1 billion e-commerce plans

Looking forward to see how much better they can get. There service for me has always been top notch.

Have to also say that they are the best company I have dealt with in ANY sector. Great prices, service and returns without any fuss!

I hope they can start offering some items which are currently only available from Amazon (ROKU) now that they have the finance

;) keep up the good work. If only one day you'll reach Amazon's levels

Not to take away anything from their good service.
I have never really shopped from them after the discontinued Amazon importing.
Their prices are never that great compared to other retailers

I use Takealot like I do Incredible... I check prices and then I start shopping. Haven't bought anything from them as yet

i'm very happy with takealot, shop there a few times a month, bought a 32GB galaxy S4 for R5199 last week, got a 32gb flash memory to supplment my new phone, very happy with my purchase!

Bought Asics Gel squash shoes for R395 with my ebucks from them. Was the best deal and they delivered in three days (ordered just before weekend, arrived on Monday).

Last thing I thought I'd buy online but I'm quite impressed with their range and service.

Takealot's service is great, but their site could REALLY do with some work. I'd have to say Yuppiechef.co.za has Takealot beaten in every aspect - online experience, pre- and after-sales service, item warehousing and delivery. Unfortunately neither Yuppiechef or Takelot are price leaders :( Yuppiechef you get a hand-signed thank you card with each order, then usually a fridge magnet or something. I've yet to see any store provide such a personal experience.

I don't think people realize that Amazon ship a LOT of things direct to us now at competitive prices. Might be why they stopped it - hard to compete with Amazon! They take care of import duties and everything.. eg. Roku 3 Streaming Media Player with 7-day delivery ... to get this I just added to my cart and went to checkout (you see the numbers before you actually pay)

Items: ZAR 995.41
Shipping & handling: ZAR 224.48
Total before tax: ZAR 1,219.89
Estimated tax to be collected: ZAR 0.00
Import Fees Deposit ZAR 170.74
Order total: ZAR 1,390.63

For comparison, R1700 is the cheapest Roku3 I could find on pricecheck.

Who remembers how TakeALot (Take2) started out?

Here.

The service back then was very good too.

I'm one of those people who are not afraid to shop on foreign websites. Amazon is a site I use sometimes but it's quite expensive, and there are cheaper alternatives. Froogle.com is a nice engine which helps you find items in foreign stores, or I use ebay stores.

EBay now also has Global Shipping Programme too, but it sucks because you can't select ordinary shipping. I prefer to ship by cheaper USPS/Royal Mail/Japan Post/etc and take my chances with customs who don't always tax your stuff, but if you use Amazon or Ebay global shipping, you will always be charged and the courier fee is expensive and often unnecessary as EMS is good enough for most items under $2000.

Yup, I use eBay a lot too, if you set to "Buy it now" and "Sort by price+Shipping" it turns from an auction site to a "local" online store - and many eBay stores do the same as Amazon with the shipping/customs all bundled in (I think eBay handles those logistics for them now, which is great). And of course for hard to find little bits and pieces you almost always find some Chinese eBay dude selling it with free postage (I'm sure most the stuff is stolen from the factories), so long as you're happy to wait a month to get it.

You really have to shop around. I have absolutely zero allegiance to stores. Money talks. Got it in stock and you're within a few bucks of the cheapest? Take my money.

I don't think it's great at all. And many Ebay sellers aren't happy with the Ebay Global Shipping program. They apparently get forced into it. It costs money to ship the item to Kentucky, where Pitney & Bowes ships it by FedEx to SA. I will honestly tell you that I prefer USPS because it's cheaper and customs don't always levy charges. I haven't had an item lost in years. If I think back and add up all the times I could have used courier instead of cheap USPS or Japan Post, or even EMS, I could probably buy a car with the money saved.

Sure. It's just that I also enjoy finding obscure sites and ordering from them. :) Shopping services are cool too. :) It's essential for special events and sites which don't ship internationally.
