Hey folks

vodacom are over-charging me hoping i wouldnt notice i suspect

they taking me for a paw-paw

i am in cape town, where is the best place to go to have a one-on-one??

Why dont you tell us what your problem is exactly. Perhaps I can assist or explain, if not then VodacomData is the official Vodacom rep and he can also try and help.

There are various stores around Cape Town, if you are in the Northern Suburbs then I'd say go to Canal Walk and if you are in the Southern Suburbs, I think there is one in Kenilworth Center.

ok cool

I took out the Mofaya deal 2gb peak and 2gb nightowl special for R149/month

For a transaction done @ 00:04 for around 108mb they charged me R197.00 when I had sufficient free data

Now i notice i am getting charged R349 per month - thats over R200 more than the contract price

When calling customer care - im told the systems are slow , then down

Please PM me the number linked to the Mofaya sim...if you dont know the number then send me the sim number and I will try and pick it up that way. Cell number is preferred though as the sim look up function on our system dont always play nice on my Linux Mint machine.

well Vodacom called me back - such a superb call centre agent - he did pick up an issue and lodged a dispute.

Sorry for being a negative body, but i will only be happy once its resolved

ocleroux, thank you - hope your uhmm ears are clean

OK....I have ad a look and I can confirm that you are still getting the Mofaya discount as you should on my system. Looks as follows on your proposed invoice:

VAS -Itemised Billing Free R0.00 14.0 % R0.00
Data Usage R0.00 14.0 % R0.00

My Gig 2 Contract R306.14 14.0 % R349.00
Mofaya Data Promotion -R175.45 14.0 % -R200.01

HSDPA Voice Tariff R0.00 14.0 % R0.00
Subscription Data Sim R7.89 14.0 % R8.99
TOTAL excl. VAT R138.58
TOTAL VAT R19.40
TOTAL incl. VAT R157.98

I have noticed that you had a data sim activated....this carries a once off activation fee of R97.00 and then a monthly sub of about R9.10 per month. This is detailed on the invoice of the month you had it activated and that is why that invoice was also a bit higher than usual.

Your were charged for extra data used during the month of October as follows as the bundle was exhausted on these dates and times:

Call Type Originating MSISDN Date Time Total Data (Bytes) Charge (Excl VAT) Number
Data Usage 2011-10-31 19:26:05 4116912 R3.45
Data Usage 2011-10-30 12:02:20 70033653 R58.66
Data Usage 2011-10-29 08:03:26 20903565 R17.51
Data Usage 2011-10-28 12:35:27 49408638 R41.39
Data Usage 2011-10-27 15:39:12 36172703 R3.18

As for the R200 and something charge for usage in September and payable end of October......it was made up of the following. You will see that none of the charges was incurred after midnight. It was during the hours that your normal 2Gig bundle was in effect and at this time it was also exhausted and therefore you were charged for out of bundle.

What must be remembered that on Itemized billing you dont see the exact transactions that the charge on your billing is made out of. The list is simply too extensive and you will receive pages and pages. I have had to put the above list together manually for you. If you add it up you will see it comes to roughly the amount you were charged on your November invoice (usage for September). I might have missed a transaction here and there...but i am cross eyed now after having to copy and paste the info one by one from our system so I hope you can forgive me if it is not 100% accurate.

I think that should cover the query about. But seeing that you have now logged a call with Vodacom for a data dispute they might be able to explain it to you a bit better than I have. :-)

Thanks buddy

Cool beans. I hope it helps. I hope you dont mind me showing your usage here in the thread....but I made sure to remove your cell number from the report :-)

I just thought it might be interesting and perhaps even helpful for other peeps to see how the billing works in the background. Itemized billing can be useful to a degree for users...but can also be a bit misleading and create confusion as in your case. Luckily we can go in and see more detail as to when exactly (date and time) those charges were incurred.

PS: sorry about the funky date format in the last usage report. Open Office kept on converting it to the damn American format after pasting it from the system and I dont know how to change it. I suck @ spreadsheets! :-)

Interesting indeed... what is bugging me now though, is how on earth one manages to use exactly R4.39 worth of internets like 11 times in a row?!

I think what the system is doing is waiting until you have used roughly a certain amount of data and then billing it. Kinda like doing it in little packets. Data billing is more complex than a voice call I would say. You have data going out and coming in constantly and billing each and every byte seperately would be madness. Can you imagine being assigned this billing query and you pull a report and the system shows you each byte that was billed on a separate line in the report? If this was the case I would simply have replied to this thread like so.

"We are currently experiencing technical difficulties and high post volumes on mybb.....please try again later.....MUCH MUCH LATER.....*beeeeep*"

What happens is that we list all your transaction for the day against the very first transaction that took place for the day.

Let me explain

If you started browsing during the night owl period , let's say 2am , this would be your very transaction for the day. Let's say in that time you downloaded about 100Mb , however you still within bundle.

later the day (not night owl period) you browse and download again , however this time it takes from your day time or normal bundle. If your normal data is used and you get charged at out of bundle rates for the rest of the day , then it will all reflect against the very first session that took place at 2 am.

this can be confusing due to the fact that you knew that you never exceeded your night owl data, yet Vodacom has charged you.

Hope this clarifes things a bit.

Regards

VD
