Okay so I want offer to purchase a .co.za domain name already owned by someone, which appears to be dormant. I have tried to track down the individual have failed, via old email addresses linked to the domain name, etc, but he's an elusive fella. I contacted the ISP who the domain was registered through, but they say "it's against our policy to give out contact details blah blah..." Any suggestions?

The subs were paid last August, and possibly will be again, so that option may not work.

How much are you willing to spend on the purchase of the domain name? If you don't mind sharing:rolleyes:

Cruizin' around researching this I found some sites out there that are asking some OTT crazy $ prices for rather arb looking domain names. A couple of grand max, but would hope for a couple of hundred. It's not a generic name, rather a very specific name to my SOHO company name, and it doesen't reflect what iI do, i just want it!!

Okay, emailed ISP, let's see their response.

Why you ask, LilJohn

Ouch, don't believe I am that desperate, besides, I don't believe my case would even stand. Seems he is/was also a small company, like me, but the possibility this dude has moved on to bigger and better things by now. If so I would happy to relieve him of the name if he is willing. I did get a response from the ISP, they are investigating...

thanx, but it seems they aren't interested :(
seems I gotta go find another
thanks for the input

Just because a domain doesn't have a website, it doesn't mean it's not being used. a lot of companies register domains for internal / email purposes only and never put a website on it.

Damn you beat me to it, but yes I agree, I have several domains just used for mail and other services.

So maybe the domain you want is still being used, also, I registered a domain recently and I added a mail catcher to get wildcard mail, and I received a mass of invoices, love letters, tenders, CV's and the sort for the employees of the previous owners of the domain.

I didn't do this on purpose but the domain was de-registered because of no payment, and just at the right time I registered it. et violas one slip in admin and now allot of people are without email! I still get stuff like the confidential tender we spoke of yesterday, I think the addresses are probably printed on business cards and letterheads and the sort.

So there are financial considerations to think of as well, some domains can reach quite a hefty price because of the effort a company has put into it to tie in with their corporate identity!

Unfortunately I can't "give" or sell them back the domain as I developed a website on it for another company and they have since received mail address and CRM system and even their helpdesk call logging is run on a subdomain.

So valuable lesson, keep your admin in order or let someone else manage your domains!
