Hi

I am fairly new to WoW and have a question. I have a lvl 39 warrior and was wondering what stats on gear I should look for to increase my aggro when I go into defensive stance as well as type of gear and talents that would be useful.

Thanks in advance

At 39?

'Of the bear'. ie Stamina and strength. Otherwise stats like +hit and +defense aren't terribly important, at least not before level 80. I wouldn't worry about it yet.

Cool thanks, I don't want to get to high levels and be a complete noob at tanking :D

It's kinda hard to be a noob at tanking these days. It's still challenging, but nowhere nearly as complicated as it used to be. 1-79 basically serves as a tutorial and as long as you're actively practising your tanking role during that period, by the time you ding 80 you'll pretty much be well versed.

I'm leveling my warrior as prot (72) and tank in my DPS gear. Usually 1st or 2nd on recount :p

Keep arb gear for stam and armor, then only once you hit heroics should you worry about other stats. If you are leveling blacksmithing as well, you can make yourself better tanking gear for your level. (Note: I wouldn't spend gold on this though, rather go do some sight seeing :) )

Only applicable at lvl80 etc, but one of the most common mistakes i've seen tanks make is to skimp on Expertise, or: they stack too much Hit.

expt is very important
Not really, dunno why people still believe this. 2/12 bosses in icc parryhaste. It's basically becomea threat stat, like hit. Sure you want to get to 26 exp (the dodge cap, parry cap is basically impossible) but beyond that it's a wasted stat. I'd always gem and chant for stam first. You can get enough exp and hit on gear alone.

I am doing ok on the first 4 ICC bosses with pretty low expertise. No plans to gem/enchant for it either.

Expertise = Threat stat which remains decent above 26 IF you're taking for threat whores.

I'd gem Stamina, but try to itemize to have +26 Expertise unless your DPSers don't demand it ofcourse. I can't imagine a tank keeping aggro with low expertise when the raid averages +9k though.

Agreed, but threat really shouldn't be an issue unless dps is outgearing you by a large margin. also hunters and rogues that aren't totting and md'ing the tank need to catch a vet klap. Especially rogues tot'ing each other for extra deeps and then pulling aggro. Assclowns.

Are you horde or alliance?

If you are Alliance then read that pm that Jono sent you. (though jono.. pm`s in this context suck because now no one else can learn what you said or use your gnomish talents).

If you are Horde its simple. Cloth, cloth and more Cloth. Not only does it keep you warm in your burrows but it also doesnt rust like plate. Since all horde have body oder problems (and more than a few need a dip), cloth is the best route to go... especially if you do PvP.

My warrior somehow has 28 expertise with no items that give expertise. I checked my armory using my iphone, so i may have missed it. I will check tonight how on earth I got +28 expertise. Must be all from def ?

EDIT: okay, im blind :D I got about 3 items that give expertise, plus vitality talent. So no need to gem for it. If I replace those items and lose expertise, I will replace any dodge gems for expertise gem.

I gave up on WoW a few months ago, and funnily enough haven't had even a twinge of withdrawal since then. That said, there's a pretty good chance that I'll be renewing my subs for Catacalysm, with the idea of rolling a Worgen warrior, which I'm planning on tanking with. I however understand there are evidently going to be some fairly significant changes to how tanking will be approached in Catacalysm - far more CC, way less AOE nuking, and so on - and to the mechanics themselves, though to a lesser extent. Does anyone have any insight into this at all, and any suggestions as to how to approace tanking in future?
I've also got a DK - I believe Blood is the specialised tank spec for DK's from Catacalysm - and a druid I tank with, so any pointers there would also be welcome.
