so I started a new character and one of the early dungeons i decided i was going to try and tank all the way through. I have done a tank here and there before while waiting on a new tank to join the group. So here i started from the beginning and after 5 minutes or so i realized.....

Wow! tanking is actually hard. i never concentrated so hard in my life, flicking my eyes over the screen looking for a party member being mobbed! after 30 minutes and at the end of the dungeon, i said to my self "Tanking Aint Easy!" :)

so you guys that you play a tank, hats off to you.

Play a DK...different story there :p

I tanked on my DK and thought it was easy xD

Healing though...now that's easy...I played on my Priest end of WotLK just to take a break from DPSing lol.

Healing used to be easy.. It's a lot harder now in Cataclysm, especially if you aren't geared well.

Ive done both warrior and dk tanking, and they about the same. Sure different classes, different abilities, but they all come back down to the same thing.

What makes tanking hard work, is not that its complicated or easy, but rather that other people just dont give a ****, so you have to take care of every dps doing their own thing, on their own target, and at the same time you need to make sure that you don't die, chain using cooldowns ect, check healers' mana pools and so on. Basically you just need to be very aware of every little thing that goes on. Then there is the little additional stuff you do, like interupt bosses because it hurts like hell and dpsers...well what do they care right?

Anyways I think what the OP meant is, you can't really slack down and go into this zombie mode of just randomly mashing buttons as you sleepwalk through the instance, which most dps'ers can do, and to a degree healers depending on their gear.

True, but as a mage myself, some tanks really do suck and can't hold aggro :x

I haven't tanked or healed in Cata as my main is a mage so I DPS, but lately I've rerolled rogue for some PvP fun.

Maybe later I'll join in the PvEness again, but currently it's really boring :p

You hit the nail on the head. :)

Tbh, I've actually found that tanking at the lower levels is sometimes harder than it is at higher levels...seeing as how on some classes you only have one dependable aggro skill at times for a loooong while, whilst other classes get like 5 within their first 20 levels

woltk was faceroll tank hardly had to tank stuff just died lol

now cata the true tanks really easy to spot now.

must really level my dk again, love tanking with him :P

I stopped tanking in WotLK. Took it up again in Cataclysm. As for threat, its not a problem. If dps want to ignore the skull, I let them die. No problem at all :)

Ye tanking isn't so easy these days DK tanking is probably the easier of them, but still relies on competent DPS. Who ever said healing is easy clearly has not healed any end game HC raids. my main is a disc/holy priest epic gear and believe me in cata healing is not easy, constantly mana starved throughout a fight and the amount of damage given to a raid is hectic now. Wrath was so easy to heal you had almost infinite mana and could spam heal.

Burning steppes:
Priest: Airion
DK: Vexation
Shami: Zuljun
Pally: Pitydafool
Huntard: Cronicdamage
Rogue: Stabbyjoe

Bloodhoof:
Druid: Scavenger

No class or role in the game is easy if you doing it correctly, and majority of raid damage can be avoided with fast reactions and aware people.

fixed it for you :D seriously though. the healers have the hardest job, because people dont do what they need to do, or have slow reactions

+1

Read a post somewhere (probably tankspot) that explained which role is easiest to hardest = dps -> tanks -> healers

Because every single fight a healer goes into will be different from the last, once you've tanked XYZ mobs/bosses and you know what to expect its trivial, dps simply have to nuke/pop threat reduction cd's/interrupts where necessary and stay out of the bad stuff

Im leveling a hordie huntard on another server... and thank goodness for tanking pets or I would die a lot more than I am. Soooo many bad tanks out there.

I have played as all 3 roles and dps is by far the easiest.
Healer is pretty tough especially if you have tards that pull stuff the tank isnt on or if you have a badly geared tank.
I still run most instances/raids as resto druid but boomkin is a nice break when I want to switch my brain off and just roll rotations.

Healing.. hard?... With Healbot you just left or right click a bunch of green blocks :D How hard is that? :D Ive got a raid worth resto shammy and a mage and playing my mage is much harder for me. Keeping him alive is incredibly difficult. With the healer you just sommer click the green blocks. You dont even have to think about rotations.

Lol says the dps!
Naa its quite tough cos you have to keep the mages alive(:D), conserve mana and try keep tanks alive too.
The rotations arent a generic thing either, you actually have to vary everything based on the fight. Having a resto druid prolly makes it harder with all the nerfs we had and having to use treeform sparingly. I see the priests dont have too hard a time.

No, says the raid healer and DPS.

Its good they nerfed healing druids ( I wouldnt be saying that if I had one)... but I had to left click and right click on lil green blocks like the wind to keep up with druid healing (which used to be the easiest form of healing (since most of your healing comes from hots you dont need to stand still for a long time to cast like you do with my shammy).

Also, if you are the main tank healer you shouldnt be putting too much effort into the mages, the healers concentrating on the raid should be doing that. Though it often overlaps. I do agree, keeping mages alive is hard work. If something farts in our direction we lose 80% of our health :(

Yeah they nerfed all of our heals, what annoys me is that they make most of those nerfs based on pvp so it messes with pve too.
I currently have a 5 button rotation running all of the time along with another 2 heals then dispell and tree form. Makes it quite painful at times.
HoT's are great if they are enough to sustain but they seldom are.
I see resto shammies got a nice boost in the last patch.
