Tariffic cellphone bill optimisation in SA

Yeah it makes sense for corporates. But there is a major pitfall in looking at historical data. If we aren't careful then we revert back to this situation:
TELKOM: "3GB is more than enough data for our customers because based on their historical usage almost none of them go over their cap..."

So some poor soul on MTN Zone will have their usage controled to odd times. What that person needs is a flat call rate (Cell C + Telkom Mobile) so that they can start using their phone whenever they want to, not go on some other stupid MTN/Vodacom product that forces them to use their phone the way the company wants them to use their phone.

When clients upgrade with me I always try and check their historical usage for the last 3 months ... take the average and suggest going either on a higher or lower package. It often happens though that clients usage is not always constant. You will sometimes see dramatic rises and plummets in usage. Also ... if a client have signed a 24 month contract ... there will be fees involved in doing a downgrade to a lower pakcage if his usage no longer justifies the bigger pakcage 6 months into the contract.
The contract I find is were you get caught. I were with Vodacom for 15 years and when I ask for pure per second billing i got told I can not get a Handset upgrade free any more and had to buy my handset IF I want per second billing. So they obviously make a bundle out of this "free handset Carrot". I cancelled them and moved to Cell C. I now spend R500.00 every 3 months Instead of +-R600.00 a month!

The support can differ between per second and per minute packages. Not that dramatically though that you would have had to buy your phone cash. Instead of the phone being free, you might have had a payment due of R100.00 once off or something like that.

Ah ha.....a client just emailed me and asked for a quote on a upgrade and turns out this line is a good example of what I was talking about earlier. Big spikes and plummets.

The problem is that there are not enough salesmen in the industry who want to build a relationship, most prefer to be nothing more than order takers.

I just found out that my SP has sold his business and had the displeasure of working with an order taker now. This is why a product like this is much needed for somebody like me that has nearly a dozen contracts (personally i don't know how many I've got).

You are an exception to the rule :p

But would you advise them to move to Cell C or Telkom Mobile (for example)?

Big question is, if he could would he?

I'm moving all my contracts over to Vodacom for a reason. Got one left on CellC and SIM has been tossed into a drawer, its less pain to have taken out a new contract than to wait for that one to end.

I think there is more truth in your statement than many may realise. I personally also think that few look at the finer detail of their contracts, its all about which phone they want and the service providers know this and thus structure there packages accordingly.

They will most definitely not give you the best and leanest package on one of the better phones. You can be sure that there will be some fat profits built into that deal.

That is exactly what I meant. People are obsessed with phones/tablets with their contracts. They don't care about the tariffs etc.. they just want the latest Iphone/tablet/S4...

bleh, headline made me think an operator like ting.com was starting up here =/

You pay once of every time you update your handset. I never got offered any other option. therefore I canceled.

The example: Current package is MTN Any Time 500 and s/he can make do with Cell C's Straight Up 30?
What were they thinking when chosing their current package?

probably thinking about what phone to get...

As the former owner of that contract I can confirm that answer. Also laziness, and the threat of losing my rolled over value had me holding on longer than I should've.

Naturally, I kicked this contract to the curb and switched to prepaid.

Hi all, I might as well try and punt my product as well. www.visibill.co.za. My product gives analysis tools to drive down expenditure across an organisation and also has the facility to employees to declare their private use.

These articles really frustrate me. Would it kill you guys to put in a direct link to the product you are talking about? Instead we get sent to a useless forum post that itself does not have the companies link in.

Why does MyBB do this? Intentionally leave out the link to the website theyre discussing?

I went pre-paid ages ago. No way I'm paying them R500+ a month ...
