Tariffic consumer contract comparison website to launch soon

For me I consider the handset more than the airtime and always go for the top up or put a cap on the amount to be spent.

this is a good idea. Can be applied to financial services too or any other commoditised product set (groceries comes to mind)

I would like a website that lists all the USSD "cheat codes" that you need to type to get onto the best pre-paid plans.

The only good contract is no contract at all. South Africans need to get out of this mindset that you need to sign up for a contract.

Prepaid wins. When people speak of contracts they sound so natural about it and I feel pity for them, for they do not know the joy and freedom that prepaid comes with

Surely prepaid data costs more than contract data? Voice I agree, but data?

And you need to get into the mindset that contracts actually work for some people.

R150 for 3gb sounds fair to me on Telkom Mobile. Or Afrihost's 4gb for R150 ,2gb for R100 .... The freedom to choose when I'm not happy is what I enjoy the most as well :)

Prepaid or GTFO! I believe Vodacom is the only company where contract is better/cheaper overall than prepaid. The others have lowered their prices significantly over the years. But then again, I have no need for a R10k smartphone when one that costs R3k is good enough. I don't care about 4k screens and 4 Gigs of RAM or octacore chips. It's a phone - not a device for playing Real Racing 3 (the way things are going, one of these days Samsung will probably release a Galaxy that will be able to play Crysis in ultra settings.)
And I don't need the extra screen real estate - I already have a tablet and laptop.

I have seen comments like this so many times before with no real examples to convince people. Not disputing your statement, I just want to understand it in order to make an informed choice myself. As someone who would most likely get the Note 4 next March ...on contract...could you do a comparison for me to show a) buying cash and prepaid data (250MB pm) and airtime (100 mins) plus an sms bundle (say 50 pm). Then option b) would list the phone + data + mins + sms on contract? I could do the research myself but your statement is quite a confident one so I assume you could assist with my understanding?

His comment is probably from someone that's irresponsible and made a 5grand cell phone bill once. Now he blames contracts instead of his irresponsibility. May as well blame spoons for making people fat.

Any to answer your question, contracts have quite a few advantages. Main reason I'm on one is that I hate managing airtime. When I want to make a call, I want to call. Not navigate USSD menus or going to the shops to buy airtime.

Next is of course the value you get. If you choose the right contract for your needs you do save money.

Then of course you pay off your device over 2 years, which is great when you consider that your bill doesn't go up with inflation.

TL;DR

If you are responsible contracts are great
If you can't be responsible rather go prepaid.

Binding Contract

Hi guys i need some clarity here, i have a 24 month binding contract for my uncapped internet, i was behind for 2 month they suspended my account, i ask the account department to work out a repayment plan so i can pay extra with my monthly fees because i cannot afford to settle it at once, they said i have to settle it or the account will remained suspended, OK fair enough but now they are still billing me every month the full amount of the services that i don't have how does that work?
