2027 Tata Punch: South African pricing and specs

Tata has announced local pricing for the updated Punch compact crossover. We highlight the refreshed model lineup. See pricing and specs below…

Previewed at the local launch of the sub-R250k Osprey compact crossover/SUV in September 2026, Tata has announced local pricing for the updated Punch. The South African lineup comprises three derivatives, available with the choice of three trim grades, and two engine and transmission options.

Engines, transmissions and fuel consumption

The Pure+ and Adventure variants employ the same engine and gearbox as the outgoing Punch. That’s to say the entry-level and mid-spec derivatives are powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine producing 65 kW and 115 N.m. of torque – the former and latter available from 6 000 and 3 250 r/min, respectively. Power is exclusively delivered to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The Accomplished+ S’s 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine features forced induction. The range-topping model’s turbo-triple produces a healthier 88 kW and 170 N.m, the latter available from 1 750 r/min. This powertrain is shared with the Osprey. However, in lieu of the seven-speed dual-clutch equipped to the latter, the Punch features a six-speed manual transmission.

Tata claims average fuel consumption figures of 5.5 L/100 km for the naturally aspirated engine and 6.1 L/100 km for the turbocharged unit. Matching the carmaker’s claims translates to respective driving ranges of 673 and 606 km on a full, 37-litre tank of fuel.

5 most affordable turbocharged cars in South Africa (2026)

Keen on forced induction in an entry-level car? These are the 5 most affordable turbocharged passenger vehicles on South Africa’s new-car market right now…

Once the preserve of high-end automobiles, forced induction has over the years trickled down to entry-level vehicles, offering added grunt to buyers at the lower end of the market. So, what are the 5 most affordable turbocharged cars in South Africa right now?

Well, before we jump into the list, it’s worth noting that naturally aspirated engines are by design less complex than forced-induction motors – and are thus theoretically more dependable as a long-term ownership proposition (all things being equal, of course).

Still, turbocharged petrol engines bring several benefits, chief among them the delivery of plenty of torque low down in the rev range, lending drivers useful tractability. Forced induction also effectively mitigates power losses at altitude, making such powerplants particularly useful in the thinner air of the Highveld.

Interestingly, the 5 most affordable turbocharged cars are all crossovers imported from India. Keep in mind that we’ve restricted this exercise to the passenger-vehicle segment, excluding a handful of entry-level turbodiesel light-commercial vehicles. In addition, note that pricing is correct in November 2026.
