I'm thinking of buying a 1300 Tazz within the next couple of months....for various reasons(Trust me it's not my first choice!)

Was just wondering if any of you have had any good or bad experiences with this car or just have any advice for me about the Toyota Tazz:)

Thanks in advance

Well, just have a good gearlock and stuff. If you look at that "High Risk Cars for High jacking or Theft" thread, it will tell you why.

I own one, so I should know. Here's some of the pro's and cons of owning Tazz. Overall had good experiences with the car.

PRO: relatively cheap maintenance, easy to drive, very reliable

CONS: easy to steal even with an immobilizer, relative high fuel consumption compared to newer models(9litres/100 km on a mixed cycle), underpowered- especially when it comes to torque...driving up Kloofnek is a bitch.

I drove one for a year, its a good car. It was a big step up from the citi golf I owned before that.

:)
I like what i'm hearing.
Pitty about the stealing aspect though but i've learned that no matter where you live or what car you drive if they want your car they'll take it!!

Saw some good prices on gumtree:)

Tazz is a pretty good vehicle. No issues that I know of except that the criminals like to steal them. Mechanically sound and the car can defnitely do 150km/h

So i was speaking to my friend at work and he says that i should rather go for the 1.6 model because it is "fuel injected". Says that in winter i will have to heat the car(1.3 model) up first before driving it. is this true?

I drove a 1.3 Tazz for 5 years! I'd definitely recommend it. I never ever had a problem with the car. Come to think of it, I never even had to top up the oil. Only with the normal services did they change it. Never had to heat my car up in winter, only my windscreen cause it was frozen...hehe...Pity I wrote it off 4 months ago.....and with that i can say that a Tazz is pretty tough, even if you roll it 3 times...lol...

Also have one for 7 years now I think, same experience can't confirm the rolling aspect though.;)

Services are relatively cheap compared to other cars.
Had 2 breakins, but not stolen yet, just have an immobilizer in it.

On the long road, overtaking can be a pain sometimes, need to be patient.
I find that driving at 140km/h is ideal, as you can maintain momentum uphill. At 120 km, u tend to lose a bit of speed.

And in another thread, I mentioned that I did 175 km/h downhill last month, but nobody believes me.:)

Must've been hectic tsunami-like winds from behind! lol.....Hey, I can confirm that, I used to push my Tazz quite often to 170/5 when driving from Joburg to Natal...downhill....looong downhill....hehe

Down the mountain path from the Hugenot tunnel :D
Still waiting for my fines

I drove one 6 years ago, very good car. I did a Pietersburg to kempton trip in 2,5 hours, at night of course, so there wasn't many cars to overtake. But just make sure the one you buy was looked after if you buy secondhand. My wife got one a year ago, it was a young guy's car, and he used it for toilet paper. But it's still going good every day.

Thanks for the feedback/advice. My mind's made up:)
Tazz it is:)
Think a 2003 model will be the best option price wise

Just a note for those living in hilly areas like I am. If you don't mind the extra noise, add a free-flow exhaust, instant difference to your power

We sold our 2001 Tazz earlier this month. Was in excellent condition, had 158000 on the odo and never missed a beat. Very reliable cars. As the others stated the only downside is the sluggish uphill driving. Understandable given the engine capacity.
