About 9000. I know next year where I'm going, there are only about 5 math teachers students and 2 Physics.how many people qualify anually as teachers?
Wow, that problem has existed in this country even when the Nats where in power. In the mid 80's when I was in primary school, even our privilege white school had not enough teachers, never mind those that could teach science and mathematics.
Don't forgot the history of our country where non-whites where subjected to sub standard education. Most of our non-white teachers where educated under the previous government and as such many do not have the correct exposure required.
You cannot blame apartheid for incompetent leadership but you cannot ignore its legacy.
OK,
Ive seen references to 'Non-white' people elsewhere here. The 'ask a black/white guy' threads.
Is it absolutely necessary to refer to what a person is NOT , rather than what a person IS?....black.
I know that it was an official term back in old days, but have we not moved beyong the mindsets of our fathers & grandfathers?

admittedly, but i thnk its also quite insulting to those people...projects an image of us & them, or being an outcast from the accepted 'norm' dont know if im explaining this correctly.I think non-white includes Asian, Indian, Coloureds and Blacks, so it's actually a shorter term.
fair enough to say that, but by now those under qualified teachers have had 16+ years to correct the short commings in their education...
& the relatively recently qualified have no excuse..
Oi! Stay on topic please, Thank You![]()
When talking about events of apartheid, its important to to say on what side you where on. You where either a white or a non-white according to the past.
I would say if one where talking of current events then cultural reference would be the only correct one as it would then be about cultural perception.

This. You see it also isn't about the money, its about the discipline in classrooms, teachers have NO discipline at their hands, now I'm not saying beat the little kids to a pulp, just a little smack on ONE child, will set all the others right until there are proper discipline structures in place. Just my 2 c.There are races other than black, which also suffer from these legacies, thus you cannot exclude them.
I think the main reason for a lack of teachers existing is that there is simply very little motivation for anyone to qualify as one. Let's ignore whether they work hard or not for now, and consider that a science teacher in Johannesburg earns around R9000 after deductions. Not exactly the sort of money you live comfortably on.

True, I know teachers who have never lifted a hand to a child and their classes were always in control. It comes down to the parents/guardian to discipline the child at home., but the parents of today seem to see that their child can do nothing wrong. Principals also need to come to the forefront and take leadership and not be loaded with admin duties. No need for it to get physical at all. If the little runts weren't taught respect and discipline at home, do you think they'll do it differently at school?
