We current setting up remote access to our servers that sits at our ISP. We have leased a analogy line from Telkom, and are connecting through this via ADSL (G.shdsl) modems. (one on either end). The total distances is supposedly 2.2km, but we can even give it another 1km to be on the safe side. What I cant understand is why we are only getting 2mb downstream. I know that this is a limitation of the G.shdsl modems / protocol. Is this because, we are going through a Telkom exchange that can only support S.shdsl protocol? Surely if we have a direct lease line, we should be doing no switching in the exchange at all and should get maximum throughput.

For all the techies, you help will greatly appreciated.

Nopes. Not neccessarily. Telkom does funny things. I'm actually amazed you got that to work to begin with, I've seen allot of people try this without to much success.

Your line could be modulated / demodulated on Fiber, the exchange could have coils on your lines, the list goes on and on really...
