Teclast x98 Pro

There were too many lukewarm reviews overall regarding battery life and other issues. Two months on how do you like yours? I may be getting a lesser model - zumad .

Mine is soldiering on flawlessly. I had had the issue with the eMMC card not recognised and thus couldn't boot into any OS, but a simple BIOS update cured that.

The screen is iPad quality, ie excellent. The hardware specs are great, as you know. No complaints there.

If I stream using WiFi - I get about 5 hours usage. I lose approx. 20% an hour on 50% brightness, and that's pretty consistent.

The only issue that's plaguing the tab is heat. I run hardware monitor, and I get up to 85 degrees on core #0 and core #1. There are very effective cures for this but I haven't yet don't the open heart surgery. Reason is I don't know where to get the thermal pads - I'll certainly do the heat mod.

Initially I hated the Android side, because it felt like win 10's ugly and dimwitted brother. But, after loading a custom ROM, Android now runs and performs like it should. I usually boot into windows tho, I've fallen deeply in love with Microsoft edge - more so now that I found a great ad-stop software. Edge on this tablet is really really fast.

These tabs are now 244USD, a fair wack more than I paid [208USD] and then add the recent R/USD free fall.. a pretty price for the tablet. Many guys on the forums have experienced issues with these tablets, but honestly I believe it's user error that contributes to the perception that these tablets are "lukewarm". And in many cases, these issues are sorted out with software/firmware fixes. I haven't heard of an inordinate number of returns to suggest the Teclast is a junk.

I use mine everyday. Mainly to browse, watch live-streaming sport when I'm too lazy to hook-up the TV, and reading study material in PDF's.

I've Never heard of " zumad"?

Took a 13 mp camera PIC of the tablet using note 3 and screen grabbed:

And then crop the pic heavily on phone..resolution still good. Whether this test tests the camera or screen, I dunno :D

"zumad"? No, not a brand - Zuma'ed leading to the R/USD free fall. :-(

Thank you. Nice to hear that you have had a positive experience. As mentioned I wanted to read books and pdf magazines and my current 8.9" Ramos i9 is still a little uncomfortable (or I have to zoom and pan.) I can get a 32GB FLASH/2GB RAM Teclast X98 Air III for $127 Android only or the 64GB/4GB Teclast X98 Plus Win10 for $184, now the Teclast X98 Plus dual boot is out for $210 (the price you paid for the faster PRO). My main need would be multitasking PDF files which is why I have an affinity for Windows, but still not sure about the available touch screen pdf applications and thinking dual Boot as a safe option. There are other cheaper dual boot tablets but none with 4GB and 2048x1536 resolution.

And how is the standby, my Ramos i9 lasts weeks in sleep mode without me switching off.

$127/R2100 with free shipping or $210/R3500 + R400 for piece of mind via courier?

I heard the x98 plus has awesome battery - 9 hrs not unusual.

I used to own atom baytrail tablets, in fact two of them, a 1GB and 2GB RAM variant. The 1GB version was pretty sluggish while the 2GB was decent.

I hardly use Android, in fact I'm even considering repartitioning the 32GB Android HD space and lump it with the win 32GB HD space to get 64GB on windows. For me, I don't have a real reason to boot into Android - I don't play games. Having said that, in Android standby mode, the battery lasts very long. Practically zero battery drain. Windows, conversely, uses-up battery even when the screen is off and idling - but I dont have sleep mode active, possibly contributes to the drain.

When i read my PDF study guides in windows [plain text], say 300 pages. The adobe acrobat reader DC is not smooth when zooming and scrolling. Especially after I have done quite a bit of editing, highlighting and text-boxes.. The same PDF in Edge browser is smooth and a pleasure, but then I can't edit the document. Edge performs similarly to the window app "reader", but also no editing function.

I don't know how much better/faster/efficient etc a cherrytrial over a baytrail really is. For me, I would probably choose more RAM than more processor power if faced with a choice ...perhaps the x98 plus win 10 only version would be best in your instance considering the zumad rand. Lol, my brain didn't click when I initially read the word... I'm sure one could flash a dual-boot BIOS on the Window 10 only version? X98pro initially launched with win10 only, but guys were flashing dual-boot BIOS to get Android. Check it out on techtablet.

/Typiing reply on phone so excuse any obvious mistakes.

I ordered from Banggood, and only paid 208 USD. Pretty significant saving of 10% (23 USD) because I used their android app as my first time purchase. This time I chose the expedited shipping option at 19 USD, and now see that the courier and delivery is with DHL - way better than chancing it via the post. Banggood order processing time was pretty much one day.

I mentioned I was in the lookout for the plus. Ordered on the 28th but had a delay due to my paypal address not listing Kzn ...live chat sorted out and dispatched on the 29th - I am hoping.

It is Chinese new year which is 2 weeks of holiday (mostly speaking ) and I am hoping it made its way out of China on Friday.

Expedited shipping as well but the package is showing as untracked. Did yours show as untracked initially?

I also had an issue with my paypal and had to send proof of address etc..

Mine showed untracked, initially - I can't recall how long it took to reflect tho. I ordered mine on the 27th October, and it was only shipped on the 30th October. But for me, I got in before the Xmas rush. Perhaps you will have a delay cos of their festivities.
