So I was a heavy coffee drinker as a result my teeth have gotten pretty stained over the years, during December I quit coffee and started using Colgate's Active white toothpaste as a result the non-coffee stained parts of my teeth are whiter than they have ever been but the rest of my teeth are I wouldn't say yellow but definitely not white. My local dentist charges around R2k for teeth whitening.

I want to know is there a cheaper option available that works?

Try brushing your teeth with a mixture containing 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 2 teaspoons of water.
Don't add lemon juice, that just eats your enamel away and leaves you with sensitive teeth.
Also don't brush your teeth like this every day, it's quiet abrasive and will also leave you with sensitive teeth over extended use.
 
I`ve heard there`s products on the market that whiten but I don`t think anything comes close to what the dentist can do . I had my teeth whitened a couple years back and it really worked well ... it was unpleasant though with a throbbing pain coming through every so often for the next day .
 
Go to the dentist. You cannot get it as white as they can at home unless you have an Apartheid-Era "Slegs Blanke" sign.

So it whitened your teeth but didn’t remove the stains?
