It get's released today..
i've preordered for PS3, can't wait to go pick it up..

Who else is as excited as me???

Reviews say it's allot like Tekken 5, which was an awesome game.

Will pick up a copy at some stage :D

No it's just that I'm planning on getting a PS3. I don't think my Wii will handle Tekken 6:o My 360 is kaput (2nd time) and I'm gatvol of sukkeling with MS-$hit:mad:

Oh ok. What's wrong with your 360? I can repair most problems ;)

I know you can ;) I first had an RRoD which my friend fixed for me (the usual x-clamp removal method). Then it lasted for a few months until one night I was watching some How I Met Your Mother episodes on it and I left the room for a few minutes and when I got back the Xbox was frozen up. I then put it off and back on again, but only got sound no video! Interesting, that on both failures, I was watching divx files just before it died!

Ouch! Pure coincidence though.

No audio but sound is a motherboard warp-age issue. Could be that the x-clamp mod or more specifically the screws were tightened too much.

Pity you went the 'el cheapo' route to have the RROD issue fixed. The motherboard now has further problems.

I will say that all consoles have an issue sometime or other. Xbox 360s get flack for RROD and rightly so but in my experience Blu-ray failures are just such an issue with PS3 consoles, seconded by YLOD (yellow light of death).

It's a real pity that whatever platform you invest in there is that 'dark cloud' of hardware failure that strikes when you least expect it.

The newer revisions of both the 360 and PS3 will drop the failure % most definitely.

Enjoy your PS3 when you do get one. I now own one and will be investing in PS3 exclusives as time goes on.

Still enjoy my 360 and Forza 3 is sure getting my attention when I have spare time!

Lets add percentage figures to these facts?

What is the percentage Xbox failures
What is the percentage PS3 failures
What is the cost of ownership

Like to hear you honest and true viewpoint, substantiated with supporting references. :D

KillLove : There's some part of me that's hoping it is awesome...it was a launch day buy for me but I played it at Rage and it moved down the list of MUST-HAVE-TITLES...so UC2, MW2 and AC2 were pre-ordered...I'll probably do a trade for Tekken for AC2....

The tekken pretoria/jhb LAN is happening soon and the jhb ZAPS lan for MW2 launch so i definitely want to get it...

LOL @ IAP, you wanna go there ?

Everyone knows what the failure rates are...it's ridiculously high for the 360, acceptable for the PS3 and impressive for the Wii....(Wii has pretty dated and stable hardware and doesn't push any boundaries so that's gotta be a consideration, also only used to play wii games, no dvd playback or the likes so it's used far less than the PS3 and x-box)...

I don't have time to harp on about percentages, suffice to say that it's well documented that failure rates are unacceptable across the board.

Less or more hardware failures across platforms means little in the face of clients having to pay high prices for out-of-warranty repairs in countries with official repair centres, which SA is not part of or pay high prices for refurbished consoles in countries that have swap out policies like SA.

This generation has proven that the number of motherboard break downs or more specifically cold solder joints of BGA components is terrible (360 / PS3). Couple this with the Blu-Ray lens failures on the PS3 ... it adds to the headaches consumers have to put up with.

Wear and tear is one thing, a flawed design is a whole other matter and the manufacturers should be ashamed. Profit isn't everything in my opinion but that is how the world works.

I don't for one defend or back any one console as I own all the next-gen consoles and will buy whatever will be released next.

I was intimating to razer1980 that I fix most problems on the Xbox 360 but he already went the 'friend fixed it for with the x-clamp modification method' which in itself isn't bad as long as the correct electronic repair equipment is used to tackle the problem at hand.
Most people however buy 'Fix RROD in 15 mins' guides and watch YouTube DIY repair videos which causes more damage than good (overheating and heat gun methods). I hear far to often the story I had it fixed and now it broke again stories, not just Xbox 360 wise but PS3 wise too.

So with the current problem the console of razer1980 has it's not worth another repair with proper equipment as the damage has been done. I even praised the decision of buying a PS3 but did explain that hardware failures is not unique to the 360.

Not to say that with my current equipment consoles don't break down again from 'light of death' related faults, which I will tackle by investing in R20k worth of IR and re-ball equipment imported from overseas. I don't just talk for the sake of talking, facts and figures gleaned from the Internet means little to someone in my position that works on next-gen consoles on a daily basis.

Not for a quick buck but because I really have a passion to see people have a working console again for whatever period of time that may be. Much better than just throwing it away and buying a new console or another brand at the first fault!

Nice side step, I love it, :D bit agrees with you. Still you do not want to give the PS3 one inch credit for anything, :D Must be that first love issues.

Enjoy. :D

Yeh back to tekken.
I kinda do not yet got the love or fancy for these fighting games with these massive key sequences to attain anything. Maybe just to lazy?

Nah, what some do not realise i like the PS3 for the extra's in media centre it gives/brings (AT ANY PRICE) I would love to own a Xbox one day. Save to say I would actually have had a Xbox as I am a M$ fan (Bill) if it was not for the Xbox fan club, all their argumentst made me look deeper in the issues/differences and on the end made me choose the technology over fan driven hype and cr@p.

Tekken would be great but too many other games to be released soon are first in line. Would see what Santa brings to the party. Eish. :D

Perhaps a bit of laziness.

Fighting games are an acquired taste due to the key sequences you mention.

However, in a tight spot mad button mashing has aided many a gamer, myself included ... 20% health left and an awesome combo for the win :D

A definite stress reliever ;)

Game purchasing is about prioritising though. Buying on a whim does not help the monthly budget ... but impatience is a human trait I'm afraid

Button mashing should never be used in teh same sentence as Tekken ;) I was unfortunate enough to play (and pay for) Facebreaker...I was really hoping to find a modern "Punch-out'-esque game but it's an annoying and boring button masher...

Tekken has awesome characters with varied fighting styles, a great blocking system where it's easier to win playing defensively and with a few combo's and then insane combo's...

I thought you guys don't troll and look for trouble? In the example below, it seems maestro was being pretty decent and not choosing a side specifically on failure rates.

But check out out your baiting ... insane!

I don't quite get this? At any price? Bold statement ;)

Is this similar to your statement than a R10,000.00 dedicated Blu Ray player would lag behind a PS3 in quality? I showed you reviews on how (sub R3,000)budget players match or better the PS3 in pure quality on BR.

Anyway - back to the media side. There are two ways of connecting, right? Direct HDD to USB and wireless streaming?

If I go direct, I'm limited to 4GB FAT32 - which removes even direct VOB rips of DVDs, let alone BR or HD rips. I cannot search the material - simply browse it. I have 20,000 songs ... yet I need to browse the PS3? It can't do MKV and certain other formats/codecs (m2ts etc). You require certain folders for the PS3 to recognise (PHOTOS, VIDEOS etc) Apart from the limited functionality, you've got a pretty crappy GUI while browsing files (no DVD cover, no synopsis of what you're watching, no genre etc etc)

So we go wireless now - and we get more codecs and containers as we have 3rd party software installed. We also bypass the 4GB file size limit - whew! Unfortunatly, those are usually HD files which can't really be streamed on Wireless G, as it's too slow :/ We still don't have the DVD cover, synopsis etc etc

How is this the best media machine at any price? Or am I missing something?

Don't you mean Wireless B+G? You need N if you're considering HD streaming.
