Is it just me or are we seeing an all out telecommunication battle between all the different companies in South Africa - lead by Vodacom?
People are building networks all over (MTN started their fiber optic network more than a year ago, Vodacom is getting serious about theirs), Last mile is getting a lot of competition in both the ISP space, as well as in connection options available to the customer (iBurst/ADSL/HSPDA/WiMax/Municipal Wi-Fi/Powerline).
Cell-C announced free calls over the weekend. Vodacom is making deals with Multichoice and trying to buy a large ISP. Neotel is on the horizon.
Is this finally it? Have the ball started to roll? What surprises are on store for us in the next couple of weeks? Did MTN focus too much on their international network or have they a surprise announcement in store for us as well?
How is all the different players going to react? Is Telkom going to surprise all and make a cash offer for CellC?
I haven't been this excited in a long time. And I suspect we'll have to thank Vodacom! Patricide! Vodacom is killing it's parent! Regicide! The evil Telkom king is on the way down! Regicide!
