I like the idea of getting my 'broadband' from someone else - even if it is the municipality.

Wonder where we can see their roll-out strategy and timeframe?

I like the part where it says that Telkom is watching them closely but no leagal action has been taken so far. Lol, how typical.

Irony!

I think it time to read telkom there last rights and sell those shares.

There is big irony in this situation, telkom never wanted to role out services in rural areas because of the cost vs income problem. Now the municipalities are going to get urban clients and telkom will have to embrace the rural community and install chatterboxes instead of DSL.

I love it.

Eat **** and die Telkom!

Enough of all this could stuff Telecoms should become a basic municipal service. The government needs to look up conflict-of-interest and do whats right for the people.

It sounds cool but I gotta say that since my municipality can barely manage to bill me for lights and water I'm a little skeptical about broadband...

private-sector operators would defend their turf.
read: TELKOM

rpm please don't make the links open a new window in my firefox browser
when I click it.

Click them with the middle mouse button or install the TabBrowserPrefrences extension wich will make target="_blank" links open in a new tab .... :)

This is all good and well but the municipalities that provide Internet access will probably still buy international bandwidth from Telkom which will probably spoil any attempt to get prices lower.

I'll probably be an old man with a stick by the time the government figure out that the current market situation is of no benefit to any one accept the shareholders of Telkom which is 000000000000000000.1% of the population.

If you think central government are pawpaws, wait till you deal with local government. They plumb new depths of incompetence and greed.

"The Mayor had to leave the function at the Home for the Mentally Handicapped, and by doing so doubled the average IQ in the hall."

The only answer is massive deregulation.

my guess is that even most municipalities are jus like telkom
they are mostly the same kind of people working there

Some municipalities recognise their lack of skills and get outside companies to do the smart stuff. I bet that the Knysna municipal accounts will also be farmed out and the municipality will just sit back and watch the rands roll in while winning kudos for its farsightedness

GOT TO LOVE THAT LINK .... AND SHE's UGLY TOO .... HAD NEVER SEEN THE CREATURE .... NOW I WONDER WHY TELECOMUNICATIONS IS IN SHAMBLES ... JUST LOOKING AT THAT FACE TELLS IT ALL .... :)
