I'm posting in this section as I really don't know where to put it.

We're getting a nice new rackmount voip server that's going into a nice new rack that's going into a nice new server room in January.

Telkom will be terminating our phone lines at the "DP". I need to get the lines from there to the cabinet.

I have two options. I either go down to Cape Cables and buy a 10 pair cable and run it, or I go to the rolls and remove some UTP and run 3 lengths of UTP. It'll all be in conduit so there won't be any visible difference.

Thing is that there's somewhat of a difference in the thickness of the copper wires in telephone cable and the copper wires in UTP.

Are there any compelling reasons why I shouldn't use UTP? Are there any compelling reasons why I should rather use the voice cable?

Except for UTP being more expensive there is no reason for it not to work. Just terminate it onto a Krone disconnect module and you're good to go.:D

I only use Lambda cable. We sell a lot of the stuff and have never had any comebacks. We get it at R1.99 a meter. 3 x R1.99 is less than R6.95 for the 10 pair stuff.
