Just thought I would mention this phenomena.
Reading on the net, this seems to be possible because of the high frequency of the DSL signal.

I've had this problem for the past two months.

1. Phone line dead.
2. Logged fault over internet.
3. Phone line fixed, ADSL line dead.
4. Phone Telkom and wait. Subject self to Spanish Inquisition.
5. ADSL line fixed!
6. Go back to Step 1.

This happened to me three times. I logged each fault pretty much begging them not to break whatever was working at that point in time.

Eventually, Telkom sent a technician over to look at my problem. I wasn't there but according to my sister, the guy said something about the filters being installed the wrong way round.

I don't believe him, seeing that my phone line and ADSL line have been working together since 2006 but hey, what do I know?

384 ADSL only uses 1 copper cable, analog voice uses 2.
So, possibly, a cable has come loose somewhere, and luckily it was not the one the adsl is on.
Or
They unplugged your voice line from the exchange.
Demand a refund on the line rental for this period.

Had the same problem last week - ADSL worked but telephone didn't. Technician found the fault on the outside telephone wire sheathing which had disintegrated at one small section.

I would've thought you're hooked up with Neotel :p :D

Log a fault and get someone to come out.
It's the only way you're gonna get a response and don't forget to ask for the supervisor at the call centre.

Good luck :)

Happens to me on a fairly regular basis, telkom techies work on the phone lines , and cut my phone, but the DSL still works.
Each time it was fixed within 24 hours.
Dont mind the phone being cut thankfully it wasnt my DSL
