Telkom’s fixed line struggle

If it wasn't for adsl I would not have been a telkom subscriber. The bastards rape you on rental. I don't even want a voice line but I have to take one due to adsl, it's a frigging tyranny!

Hopefully LLU solves this when it eventually comes along.
 
lol...looks like sum non adsl subscribing people are now starting to get FED UP WITH HELLCUM...wd for the masses waking up...well...at least some of em :)

I'd, personally, like to know how many subscribers TelkomInternet has lost thanks to Afrihost et al.
 
If they made it all cheaper they wouldn't see such a big drop and they would probably have more people signing up...just my 2 cents :)
 
Now that they have sold their stake in Vodacom, it shows the true state of their business, and it is going to get worse if they don't change from the greedy ****es they are....

I can understand that some people still using dial-up, although many other people don't.

The ISDN I'm not so sure about?
Would this service be used for the same reason that are still a lot of dial-up users in my area?
People not able to afford broadband, see no need to change to broadband,
areas where broadband are not available?
Would this be private or business that would boost ISDN.

I honestly thought that broadband replaced ISDN. I did not think it was still on offer!

I think I last used / saw ISDN in 2002 when I cancelled my 128KB line and Telkom came to remove my / their modem.

Yes, I suspect that the ISDN is used by small businesses. The convenience of having two lines is undeniable, and it integrates well with a small PABX.
 
This is good news to my ears, maybe just maybe they will wake up and see that we aren't going to be pushed around anymore. :P
 
I think that they did not take into account the full impact of the Vodacom deal. Prepaid cellphones have been eroding the fixed line base for the last few years, but they were shielded from this as many fixed line subscribers were moving over to Vodacom. Now Vodacom is gone!

They also missed the boat by not rolling our their own mobile network much quicker instead of procrastinating over business plans and business cases. They have the internal capabilities to do it themselves yet top management insisted on outsourcing the mobile roll out. Many of the same guys who rolled out the initial Vodacom and MTN networks are still there, champing at the bit and raring to go.

Telkom are so fixated on reducing staff costs that they outsource work that could be done better internally and it is now costing them more!!!

This also happened a few years ago in the cable environment. They outsourced virtually the entire build and maintenance operations and look at the results. The copper and fibre networks are a mess. Combine this with a suicidal decision to reduce/stop preventative and routine maintenance on cable routes and you end up with degraded service all over the country.

Little tip to Telkom: FIX YOUR CABLE NETWORK!

/oh yes, and get rid of government as a shareholder. All the boardroom and management politics is not conducive to running a business as a listed company.
 
Good for them. maybe loose another 30% or more, you #^$%$##!!!!!

Maybe now you will considder installing a line, but I am not holding my breath.
 
I am one of those, cancelled my analog line and ADSL line rental and my telkom internet 2gb... Saving R400pm I can use for something else.
 
The BUSTARDS stole our money for years now let them get SCREWED.
 
I know its bad, but it just makes me so happy!

They have had an expensive and poor business model, and the reason why they can't just change it in a snap (like small isp etc.) is because they have been fueling it for years.

Telkom should really reduce the basic cost of a phone line and offer a sep offer on just adsl, i would switch over in a flash if they did.

Until then its a 1mbps wireless line. So when they become cheaper i'll join them and join the ctwug:)
