Telkom 1 mb uncapped 3 month trial

Hey guys, thinking of getting this in my flat which I share with my dad. Would you people say its worth it? I've heard horror stories about telkoms shaping and horrible speeds. I've glanced at a couple threads and think I'll probably just take the plunge with this and if it goes pear shaped down the line I'll switch to WA or Afrihost... Mainly going to use the line for gaming and my dad checking emails and browsing and occassional torrents...
 
Can you apply for this special even if you have an existing line? I already have a 1mb line but want to move to uncapped, specifically this offer.
 
So how much are you people doing a month? At 100KB/s 24/7 one can do 800MB+ per day. So that comes to over 200GB per month.
 
100kbps downloading 24/7 really blows... Browsing is really nice and fast until you start ANY download, torrent or not. As soon as that 100kbps is hit you can not even browse webpages or do jack...

Why, isn't HTTP traffic prioritised?
 
So my sis gets this installed, last Friday 20/01/2012 and its still not activated yet. How long did u guys have to wait for it to be active?
 
I applied for mine 3 weeks ago and they called me today to tell me that they are coming tomorrow..I have been buying bundles daily to get by since cell c cancelled their rewards :(

You mean line is installed, but no account provided? If so, please don't wait, follow up. Phone the call centre with your order number, explain that the line is installed, but the account has not been created, they should be able to activate while you are on the phone, and you should (AFAIK) receive credentials by SMS.

If your account is not created, you may be billed incorrectly due to the discount rules not kicking in (can be rectified, but will take some time.
 
I know of 2 people in Cape Town who have applied for this in the first week Jan 2012. Still waiting for install.
Presume if one has applied and they install after 31st Jan one is still on the trial and get the trial deal ?
Anyone in CT had an install done in shorter time ?
 
Which adsl modem do you get with this 3 months trial? Is it just only a modem or an ADSL Router with LAN ports?
 
So i wait 3 weeks to get telkom guy to come over, he comes over and he tells me that the owners of the building have a telkom box in the building but do not allow lines to be installed on their walls. does anyone know where i can find a cable channel installer around Pretoria Hatfield?

they will give you a wifi ADSL router - usually the duoplus, but if you want you can get your hands on the siemens.

they are usually very quick, once you request the trial by phone they will text you a order number - usually within 48hrs.
once you have that (if you are doing a self install - very very simple) you can dash off to a telkom customer service centre & pick up the router, go home plug in, set up & you're done
 
I picked up the form to be completed last weekend and plan to apply before the end of the month. Noticed they ask for your banking details for a debit order - is this compulsory of can you also pay manually?
 
I applied yesterday telephonically. Told them i'l pay via eft. Was no problem.
