Telkom 40Mbps ADSL speed increase coming

And you won't be seeing many 'new' 10Mb/s rollouts either... even the current 10Mb/s DSLAMs (IMAX's) are going to be replaced with MSAN/ISAMs, which are capable of speeds in excess of 24Mb/s and even FTTH.

So why continue with "old" technology? Yes, the new 10Mb/s equipment is now old. when compared to the MSAN/ISAMs.

The spec on the MSAN/ISAMs is actually 50 meg per port alcatel lucent
(that is including the telephone line IP)

Do these things look any different than the normal blue/green telkom box down the road i.e. is there an easy to spot if you're area has been upgraded with this technology?

It is about 2.5M long by about 750mm wide and about 1.8M tall and it is cream in color ,it still has the blue and green box next to it that is the underground cable connection too the distribution point in your back yard.

40Mbps is a joke considering the distinct lack of 10meg upgrades.

In fact my line's currently only capable of 2meg which means I'm going backwards .. just like Telkom.
Note this

All the "old" exchanges can normally give you up to 2Mbps, so they are making this the baseline, that is plain awesome. You will pay less for your line rental and you have an issue?? 10Mbps is down to your distance from the exchange and the quality of the copper, MSAN should change the distance when the install it.

Telkom, having such an appalling track record, first need to produce the results before they get any credit.

They dug this hole for themselves.

Telkom is busy installing one of these new boxes about 80 meters from my house. I stopped whilst a Telkom techy was working in it about a week or so ago. He spent the whole Saturday and Sunday working on it.

He advised/confirmed the box was for the 40mbps network that they are rolling out and that they are planning to do the cut over next month sometime.

So here is me hoping.

Wishful thinking...

Is there a website that is keeping track of which exchanges are being upgraded?
