Telkom 5G on Mobile Device

Does Telkom support 5G on handheld devices? I have an S23+ which supports 5G, but I have never had an actual 5G connection.
 
Also have 5G handheld device with both Vodacom and FNB SIMs. Coverage map indicates 5G available, but neither have shown 5G connectivity.

I have had mobile 5G from Telkom for more than a year, limited coverage though. Also, seems like you need to ask them to activate on your sim as not all sim’s automatically gets provisioned
 
They do have 5G for mobile. However, it is poorly being implemented. Telkom says if you are in an area with 5G coverage, your sim will eventually be automatically provisioned to connect to 5G.

However, this auto provisioning does not happen for most people.
I have three Telkom sim cards and only one of them can connect to 5G.
There is a value-added service that needs to be active to connect to 5G, but I have not had any luck trying to convince the Telkom customer service to active this on my other sim cards. they insist that the sim should be auto provisioned.

Over the last month I have been to 9 Telkom stores and spoken to 5 agents, had two case numbers and one technician call me directly.

The responses range from.

Telkom does not have 5G yet just 4.5G (okay).

to

Telkom hasnt told us about 5G yet but it probably sucks just use a different network for it. (sure)

One rep at the store at Somerset Mall says she has 5G on her iphone 16 pro max, showed me and said it just worked.

and

The technician finally said that it only works on 5G enabled sim cards on their smart broadband plan. To which I said I have one of those sims it doesn't work. She then pivoted towards it only working in routers.

Other responses were to check the settings on my phone and watch paint dry basically.

I have been in an area with 5G support everyday for the past year or so and nothing has auto provisioned. But the phone detects the network. I have about 6 sims prepaid and contract across android and ios and none have the 5G VAS add-on.
 
Same here , number of calls to them and no resolution. My contract has come to an end with Telkom awhile ago, will be porting my number to Nedbank Connect which I think works on MTN and I know my friend on MTN with the same S22 Ultra model has me gets 5G in areas where I get 4G+
 
I upgraded one of my contracts to a 5g data contract. 40mps, 1Tb. It works, and it's fast. On my phone

I went to the telkom shop months ago and they told me I can't upgrade my current contract to a data contract. So I've been meaning to cancel both contracts, finally called yesterday to cancel and when they asked why I said because I wanted to migrate to 5g and the shop said it's impossible.

So they cancelled one and migrated the other to 5g. R499 a month for 1tb data at 40mbps. I even have reception in Welgevondon, my phone never works there. 5g there is slow but I can actually use my phone unlike before.
 
Mine was provisioned on one of my sims this morning. Didn't prompt tech support it seemingly just happened. Prepaid in the same phone doesn't have this VAS. Other multi-sims on the same contract do not have this, this is the main number in the multi-sim capped contract.

I'm still happy on 5G. Speeds are still good, mostly between 20 and 40mbps somewhere. Where I am on the farm those speeds are brilliant though, we normally struggle lot. So I'm still okay.
