Hi All

Looking for some advice.

I just got my Telkom bill and it is about double what I expected so looking for some clarification.

This was a new installation last month, it was installed on the 5th of June, I was told it was charged pro-rata so I expected a bill of roughly double.

I signed up for Do uncapped 1mb with weekend caller plan. I was told the total monthly cost would be just over R500pm therefore I was expecting an account for over R1000, I just received a bill of R2048.91. Broken down as follows

Subscription Services - R725.46
Service Fees - R1 102.54
Discounts - R30.70
VAT - 251.61

Subscription Services

DSL Fast (pfft) 05 June - 11 June - R32.68
Telkom Evening W/Ender 05 June - 11 June - R36.64
DSL Fast 12 June - 11 Jul - 144.74
Telkom Evening W/Ender 12 June - 11 July - R162.28
TI DO Uncapped Basic June - R174.56
TI DO Uncapped Basic July - R174.56

SUB-TOTAL R725.46

Service Fees
0215543*** 5 June - R483.94
0215543*** 5 June - R618.60

SUB-TOTAL R1 102.54

My question is, 1) what is the service fee? 2) why am I paying it twice? 3) And where does that amount come from?

Also if I got my line on the 5th of this month, 4) why I am paying from the 5th to the 11th, for June and for July?

5) Does that mean if I cancel my internet I get one month free at the end as I have already payed 1 month ahead?

6) Also, according to them why I signed up and according to their website the weekend caller is R36, why am I now being charged R162.28?

Any clarification would be appreciated before I go and scream at people on Saturday.

Regards,

1) and 2) It looks like you had an additional telephone point installed? or am I wrong? Usually the installation fee only covers 1 telephone point. You pay for additional points.

4) You always pay a month in advance with Telkom.
....

6) The R162.28 includes your telephone line rental.

:)

Only a single point installed, is that service fee a once off point installation?

I have a follow up question, I dont know why I was double charged for installation as I only have 1 point but, I see they say do the installation yourself and then they wont charge you, does that mean the installation is simply the router setup? As I did do this myself (my own old router, my own pots filter, my own telephone cables etc), or does this include the running of the line from the poll to my house? As I don't believe this is possible on my own.

When the technician left my house my telephone was working by the ADSL was not setup

EDIT: It is starting to look like they charged e R483.94 for the telephone line installation and R618.60 for setting up the router which they did not do

Aaaah that would make sense. Seems the technie charged you for something he didn't do. If I was you I would go to a Telkom DirectStore. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT try and sort out billing issues via the call centre. You will cry and your soul will start to body. :p

Telkom Direct stores WILL NOT ASSIST YOU.

When you go there they tell you "there is the phone, use it to call the call centre". I kid u not

Sounds like I am going to have a fun Saturday.

Perhaps I should send them a confirmation that they are charging me for something that did not happen and then just refuse to pay that section of the bill, and when they reprimand I can fall back on my proof? I'm guessing it does not work like this though and I am going to have a struggle with them. Gad.

Thanks guys

I guess this will depend on who helps you. The store at Bayside mall was very helpful when I had a billing issue - was sorted out within 10 minutes and I was credited the correct amount the following month.

Thats good to hear as I will be going to Bayside (Stay in West Beach).

They were all very helpful when I was there to sign up, so I am hoping this will be a simple process.
